EQL: Pro - Rules, info and qualification

2010-12-15 23:59 by 1tsinen

As I promised here we have the BIG news post about it.

What is EQL:Pro?
It's a new league which includes the best players on the 4on4 Quakeworld scene. The top 4 teams from EQL12 division 1 will get a direct invite while 4 teams will have to qualify for the last 4 spots! This league differs in the way that it only allows the best teams from the scene and there are no divisions.
Why? Well the quakeworld scene has played ordinary leagues for several years and has it's own habits, this is one that will be spectator friendly and will encourage the best players of the 4on4 scene to practise and join top teams or even form new top teams to threat the clans that has dominated the scene for years. There hasn't been a similar tournament since Smackdown which was played back in 2005 for the last time. The biggest difference might be that this is only played in Europe (servers).

What will be new?
Strict dates with exact times for when the games will be played! The tournament is a sunday only gaming event and will not allow any changes in the schedules. WhY? Streaming and arranging commentary will make this possible and also much more spectator friendly for the players around the world, also hopefully will attract more players to the most active 4on4 quakescene in Europe. With high fragrates compared to other quakes and a high gamespeed this is probably the most intresting quake to watch considering the 4on4s and we would like to share this experience with the other scenes aswell. It's time for Quakeworld to take a serious step in to "pro gaming". As Dreamhacks has shown there is lots of intrest in the game outside of the normal quakeworld scene and they have included cash prizes. Now we are trying to take the step where we try to achieve "pro status" considering players playing it and also "pro status" considering how it is arranged. Also cooperation with big multigaming leagues and sponsors is in our intrests.

Qualifiers:
The qualifiers will be played sunday the 19th december 2010. The event is starting at 18 cet and will be played until we have 4 qualified teams (rumours about tVS quitting qw as a team might make it 5 spots).

Signups:
Signups will open in the beginning of next week (as soon as pages are up) and will close on saturday the 18th 12:00 cet. The teams will start playing on sunday 18 cet. Any teams can signup, but if there are many teams intrested we might seed the teams and will drop out the teams which has the least chance of succeeding in the qualifiers according to the EQL admins.

New systems and notable things compared to regular EQL:
- The schedules ar tight and strict.
- Rulesets has to be followed, playing with wrong rulesets or with not allowed models will be a default loss. Before every game this has to be checked, also if a player restarts his client between rounds.
- We will use a new "equal pings"-rule which works the following ways, there are several options how to use it and the maximum ping which players might have to ping up to is 38. The following pings will be considered equal and minping will be used to achieve fairness in the games: Team1 pings: 25 25 25 25 > Team2 pings: 12 25 25 38 >> Team1 pings: 12 12 38 38 > Team2: 25 25 25 25 etc. When the maximum ping is needed the following might come in to play: Team1 pings: 12 12 25 25 > Team2 pings: 12 12 25 55 -> Team1 will have to pingup one of their players to make it the following way: 12 12 25 38. The games shall be played on antilag-servers to make the ping difference matter less.
- Clients will be the same ones allowed in EQL12.
- The points system will be the following: 1 map win = 1 points, as we assume teams will play all their games we will not give out any activity points. For a team dropping from a game it will give them -1 points. Also Walkovers will give the opponents full points while the team who gives the Walkover will get -1 points for a noshow. Idling on the server will also be considered as dropping from the server. The admins will look in to each case to see if a player or the whole team will be punished in similar cases.
- The group stages will be split in to 2 parts, top 2 teams from both groups will go to playoffs. The qualifiers will work in a similar way (will get qualified instead of getting in to playoffs).
- Players which did not make it with their team from the qualifiers will be recommended to try to join teams which qualified. This way the quality of the games will be better and situations with WOs and similar can be avoided easily.
- There is NO player limit/team, we actually recommend you will have lots of players in your team.
- Transfer deadline for the teams will be 31.12.2010 23:59.
- Maps will be TB3 (the big/best 3) which are DM2, DM3 and E1M2.

Hope you will enjoy playing and watching our league!

Yours, Itsinen (Head Admin), Zalon (Vice Head Admin & Webmaster), Dimman (Admin), Blixem (Admin), Hooraytio (Admin), Zappater (Admin)!

And signups work the following way: E-mail your Team to: the-admin@suomi24.fi

I especially admire the 2nd paragraph! If it could be done.... well, new waves of quakers would quake this scene hopefully!

GG Admins :)

It's more than keep qw alive.
"Also cooperation with big multigaming leagues and sponsors is in our intrests."
wooow. Interesting!
#4 Diki - 2010-12-16 10:45 (84.250.41.XXX)
Nice idea but maybe the worst starting day and deadline for transfers. I think many (or atleast some) of players will travel home or abroad for christmast and new year holidays. You just couldnt wait over the newyear? :) Ofc you can just join some of the 3 clans that are "in" but doesnt give a change for new ones.

Anyway hope this will be a nice season :P
#5 Rikoll - 2010-12-16 11:06 (212.33.142.XXX)
.. or join some of the other 4 (5?) clans that qualify in these rounds for the actual season. If you're motivated for it and got the skills to compete at that level, it should be np finding a clan for the season start even if you can't participate in the qualifications this Sunday.

Sounds hothothot, make sure to start the hype already! :D
#7 Diki - 2010-12-16 16:01 (84.250.41.XXX)
I was not speaking just about mine situation... I think there will quite a busy times for many under christmast and newyear :P

Finns seems not to be so interested about this so I was thinking if its cause of bad timing. But hope we can see some hot games and not too many stars dropping out... Afterall there are not that many players in "pro" level :)
#8 bps - 2010-12-16 16:01 (83.233.40.XXX)
looking forward to this!
but I really can't see why there is no news about this on quakeworld.nu? that's the place to shine!
#9 blAze - 2010-12-16 16:13 (83.102.10.XXX)
Agreed, everything important should be announced without delays on qw.nu, where else would people look for qw news?
#10 razor - 2010-12-16 16:30 (81.201.222.XXX)
go join the qw.nu team and make the news about it then you whiny bastards!
#11 Hagge - 2010-12-16 18:42 (212.221.52.XXX)
It's not like anyone can join the qw.nu team razor 8)
#12 razor - 2010-12-16 18:51 (83.250.108.XXX)
you gotta have a 5 year long journalist education first? and at least 10 years experience of qw
#13 Hagge - 2010-12-16 21:13 (188.223.195.XXX)
No, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just let anyone join 8)
#14 Åke Vader - 2010-12-16 22:56 (41.31.113.XXX)
As long as the people applying to be a writer are "known" within the community, and preferably not for a bad reason, i think it's very likely they'd be let in on qw.nu. :)
#15 xtje - 2010-12-17 23:20 (89.176.226.XXX)
Or theres always option that anybody can write article, send it to qw.nu admins and ask them if they could post it on the frontpage, with a credits to the original poster or something :) Dont get me wrong but this idea is fairly used on plethora of webs :)
