Playoffs!

2010-11-21 23:18 by Hooraytio

The group stage is over and the playoffs are upon us! Read on for further information and quarter final fixtures.

We have seen more activity than in a long while and especially division 1 has been great at playing their games. Exalted with Mcdonalds have had their games cancelled but the activity points for their opponents will remain. It is actually fair that teams who were active and tried to play the whole season get to keep these points. Remember, clans that started to play after 4-5 weeks are really at the mercy of the admins and we still let those clans stay in the league.

Division 1 quarter finals:
Slackers versus Cccp
the Viper Squad versus QuakeKlan
Fusion versus TeamKillers
Suddendeath versus Sauna

There is not much to say about the walkovers in division 2 as they did not really affect the standings radically.

Division 2 quarter finals:
Bad Luck Troopers vs Demolition Crew 2
Chosen versus Oclan
Satanic Slaughter Clan versus Magnum 44
In a Blaze versus Cross Defenders

In division 3 there are no surprises either.

Division 3 quarter finals:
Psy versus Southern Smoke
Machinery versus Mob of Oddballs
Rusty vs Challengequake Proworld
Paras versus Fallen Angels

Deadlines are:
Sunday 28th of November for the quarter finals.
Sunday 5th of December for the semi finals.
Sunday the 12th of December for the finals.

Remember that playoff matches are played best of five and that no map can be played more than once.

Remember to inform the scene about what day and time you plan to play your games!

Good Luck!

The unplayed games were handled like this

Division 1
Walkover - the Viper Squad over lastentarha

...and the semi-finals and finals gonna be 1-1 week with the deadlines 5th december and 12th december, right?
#2 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 08:59 (85.228.250.XXX)
That is correct and I've updated the post, thanks!
#3 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 09:08 (85.228.250.XXX)
"After 12 EQL's you still dont have any clear rules."

Just wanted to put a reply to this statement from TheEvilDog here.

Pretty much the only thing that doesnt have clear rules is what happens with inactive clans and their played/unplayed matches. Instead of just kicking out clans that idle for the first 6 weeks or stop playing after 5-6 games (out of 11 or more) we try to give everyone a chance.

Clear rules would be set dates, i.e clan A must play vs clan B on October 7th 20.00 cet. Otherwise there will be a walkover and the idle clan will get pointd deducted or kicked.Well we cant afford to have such strict rules with 30-40 clans left in the scene. The scene isnt consistent enough to use such a strict scheduele and thus we cannot really enforce rules pertaining to WOs and idle clans.

There will always have to be some kind of makeshift solution and this time letting idle clans play last week + extra days and keeping some activity points was it.

I hope you all had a fun season anyway and will do your best in the playoffs.
#4 bandit - 2010-11-22 09:35 (195.236.222.XXX)
its amazing how often admins can mess things up somehow. there is no logic about your solution here with these points given in div1.
#5 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 09:45 (85.228.250.XXX)
Compared to a table without those points it changes positions for TKS and QK.

QK started playing very late and thanks to Dimman keeping us informed of the situation QK were kept in the leagu, ultimately playing all of their possible games and made it into playoffs.

TKS on the other hand were active the whole season and managed to play that extra game from which they actually lost 2 points in the end. Perhaps they, and the other 4 clans who got the EWMC gamed played, should lose all 3 points but the activity points are there to reward activity so we let them keep those. It is not their fault that EWMC stopped playing.

So there is a logic, perhaps not just the same logic as you yourself would have used.

This is still a minor issue so go ahead and concentrate on your quarter final instead.
#6 LethalWiz - 2010-11-22 10:11 (87.96.245.XXX)
Whether we face TVS or Fusion is not a "minor issue" to us.
#7 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 10:21 (85.228.250.XXX)
Trying to resist the urge to write "U mad bro?".

Seriously though, in order to win, every opponent must be defeated. Why not defeat one of the hardest ones immideately?
#8 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 10:44 (85.228.250.XXX)
I mean you are in the playoffs. You could just as well had missed the season alltogether.
#9 Hagge - 2010-11-22 10:51 (212.221.52.XXX)
A bit of controversy as always, nice to see! The decision seems a little bit strange to me, but if I was one of the clans affected I would still be happy as long as my team made it into the playoffs. As we all know everything is possible in playoffs :E

However, it seems like the decision was made depending on the clan that was affected. I don't think the decision to keep the activity points would've been made if it had affected a clan that had been active throughout the whole season. Now it's affecting QK who was idle for a couple of weeks, and hence it feels like this is a way to punish them for that.

Otherwise I have to say that bo5 already in the quarter finals is a great idea! Not sure if it was like that also last season, but I remember back in the day when there were lots of good quarter final games that was only bo3. I especially remember one really tight quarter final between tVS and CMF that sadly had to end after 3 maps :(

About the quarter finals it seems like SR got a really tough opponent despite finishing 1st. I would rank CCCP (or Sauna) as the toughest opponent out of the ones placed 5-8, especially after the addition of moltas. SD-Sauna should be a great game that can go either way, and it will be interesting to see what QK can do vs TVS. TKS might be troublesome for Fusion on the CMTs, but on tb3 I think it should be np for Fusion.

Let the spectator feast begin! Good luck 8)
#10 nitram - 2010-11-22 11:00 (85.119.130.XXX)
I think the admins solved this in a good way. Like Hooraytio said you gotta defeat everyone to win anyway. And if you look at the results TKS actually beat QK so I think it's logical to put them ahead of QK in the final table. Even if we lost a few games this season we came back and won most other, and took a few important wins and maps that secured our spot in the table, I guess QK just have to win more games next season if they want to finish higher in the table? No reason to blame the admins for anything here, it was a tough decision and I think they did the right thing.
#11 Hangtime - 2010-11-22 11:10 (77.98.152.XXX)
I think the only problem with letting teams keep activity points against clans removed from league is that you need to be sure that all the clans who didn’t play had not been actively trying to schedule the game throughout the season. Of the 12 clans left in div1, 7 of them don’t get activity points. Based on my (perhaps inaccurate) perception of what was happening, F, DC and FU were pretty active throughout the season, maybe they were a bit ‘unlucky’ in that they never got a game scheduled in with EWMC before they stopped playing.

Then again on the flipside of the argument, if you have the concept of ‘activity points’ then it seems pretty stupid to give every clan the same number of activity points (aside from those giving away WOs) – you may as well not bother with it at all in such a case. Maybe the idea is to encourage clans to get games played while you can to mitigate the risk of opponent clans going inactive. Some of the most proactive clans in trying to get games played across the whole season were TVS, SR and TKS so maybe it is no coincidence that they were able to get a game with EWMC.
#12 bandit - 2010-11-22 11:32 (195.236.222.XXX)
what ht said in the first chapter. didnt mean to take a side either for tks or qk.
#13 gaz - 2010-11-22 11:52 (77.73.13.XXX)
Can we go back to div 3 next season plz? Ta
#14 blAze - 2010-11-22 12:30 (83.102.10.XXX)
I think if a clan was removed then the activity points should also. Just because they didn't play us, doesn't mean we didn't try or were not active. We tried to play every team, all season long. It's stupid to say that we were not active.
#15 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 12:34 (85.228.250.XXX)
#13 That depends on more things than your division 2 record, even though it plays a role, i'm afraid. A lot of things happen in between seasons so one can never be sure of how each division will look.
#16 dimman - 2010-11-22 14:46 (85.235.29.XXX)
#10: "And if you look at the results TKS actually beat QK so I think it's logical to put them ahead of QK in the final table."

Only time that would be "logical" is if it would actually count. It _doesn't_ with current rules.

This is just some made up thing based on one or two peoples personal opinions.
#17 dimman - 2010-11-22 14:49 (85.235.29.XXX)
As in, I'm having a hard time buying it since it's based on opinions and not backed up by anything, like written rules, not new-just-made-up unwritten rules.
#18 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 15:05 (85.228.250.XXX)
Would be alot easier if teams just played their games in time :)
#19 HangTime - 2010-11-22 15:36 (77.98.152.XXX)
#14 I don't think anyone did say you weren't active? The fact you got your game with EWMC played kinda illustrates that. The point is more about teams like Lastentahra and QK who didn't (at least on the face of it, maybe they have evidence to the contrary) start being proactive in terms of getting games played until quite late in the season. Hence why I think your WO against Lastentahra was justified.

#18 yes, but as the saying goes, it takes two to tango. If your opponent is idle and you ask 20 times for EQL game over the course of 2 months and still they don't play there isn't much you can do.
#20 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 15:42 (85.228.250.XXX)
Yeah it wasnt meant to blame the clans who tried to play. Im just tired of the ones who cause the game to remain unplayed.

I just wish we had more clans so we could kick clans who leave wo or arent active every week.
#21 dimman - 2010-11-22 15:49 (85.235.29.XXX)
I were in contact from the very beginning of the season with EWM dudes, and they made clear that they wouldn't play any games. They whined as hell about being in div1.

Soon after we lost Striker, several of us had some irl issues to deal with. I informed the other admins about it and when we would play again.

During this time EWM decided to play some games after I managed to talk them in to doing it. Unfortunately we weren't able to play at that time.

Then we got active again, and when speaking with EWM dudes they made it very clear they wouldn't play any more games at all.

As HangTime said, it takes two to tango..
#22 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 15:57 (85.228.250.XXX)
And because you kept EQL informed your clan is now in the playoffs instead of getting kicked out around week5 for not playing...
#23 dimman - 2010-11-22 16:34 (85.235.29.XXX)
#22: That still doesn't have anything to do with the EWM case.
#24 TheEvilDog - 2010-11-22 20:33 (90.228.224.XXX)
It's not like we are the only clan that didnt get the chance to play EWM. But admins sure love to point it out. What do u have you say about the other teams? They were not active, or? Bullshit again.
#25 Hooraytio - 2010-11-22 20:39 (83.233.83.XXX)
Somehow they, alltho being active, didnt manage to get the game played.
#26 Hagge - 2010-11-22 23:59 (188.223.195.XXX)
Yes, it's usually like that when a team refuses to play you. We have seen it sooo many time, and there will be more :E
#27 niomic - 2010-11-23 05:20 (62.78.249.XXX)
I wasn't really in charge of getting our games played in FU, so I don't know all the details, but what I do know is that Essoid clearly stated (to me) about a week before the season was ending that ewmc would not play any more eql games. FU was active most of the season and we had enough clans asking us for games, so that we didn't have to go out and find them ourselves most of the time. Getting the ewmc game played was something we had planned as an action for the last week as it had not come to pass before that.

I understand what Hoo is saying about the difficulties of writing all this down in the rules, so that it promotes the right kind of actions from the players and the scene as a whole. I would still encourage EQL admins to start drafting a proposal for seasons to come. This time there were barely any casualties concerning this decision, but that might not be the case every time.
#28 Kalma - 2010-11-23 11:26 (88.112.76.XXX)
Maybe the activity points should be awarded only to clans that try to keep in schedule. Seemed a bit unfair how tVS had to play half of their games in the last couple of days just because many clans didn't want to play them sooner.
#29 razor - 2010-11-23 14:54 (81.201.222.XXX)
everyone played half their games the last days/week :)
#30 Hooraytio - 2010-11-23 19:04 (83.233.83.XXX)
Thats exaggerated to say the least.
#31 Medar - 2010-11-23 19:15 (88.112.16.XXX)
