Division 1 4th Update

And here is a last look at the division 1 regular season.

Division 1 update 4

In the dying moments of the regular season the clans in Division 1 put nine games into the books. These final games decided the general placements in the table although some walkover might fine tune the standings a little.

Suddendeath were in some trouble at the time of my last update, only having three played games to show. All of their games so far had been convincing 2-0 wins but this was going to change during the last night of regular season. However, before we get to that Suddendeath played another three games in which they won against TBA, C88 and ATG rendering them a top position in division 1. All three wins showed that SD is a really good team with even such a good team as C88 left behind in the smoldering ashes. SD just looked unbeatable but all that was about to change as they faced off with tVS in the final night of the regular season. tVS won with large margins on both DM2 and DM3 and sailed up as the top dog of division 1.

The Viper Squad also had some problems getting games played but in the end both ATG and SD showed up to give tVS a fight for their money. ATG looked really weak however and didn’t stand a chance as tVS rolled over them on DM3 and E1M2. Suddendeath came close but tVS was still able to score another 2-0 win and are the favorites for the title this season.

The most active clan of division 1, Chosen, secured a top seed in the B-playoffs after beating FU 2-0 and losing 1-2 to TBA. The game versus TBA was even with TBA winning DM2 and CSN winning E1M2. Then on DM3 it was some controversy with lag and timeouts which cost CSN a chance to win the map.

Anzas Tappra Gossar was in need of points after losing 1-2 to Oclan previously this season. Their path to A-playoffs was to be blocked as they lost to SD and tVS 0-2 and C88 1-2. They leave me with a feeling of them not really living up to the expectations. I said before the season that they or Oclan would make it into A-playoffs but I still feel that ATG has underperformed a little given their skilled lineup. They have a chance at remedying their selves as they are heading into the postseason in the B-playoffs.

The Black Ants showed that they are a fearsome foe in the coming B-playoffs as they took down close rival CSN in a nice 2-1 game, although the DM3 decider was a little ruined by lag and timeouts. They also tried their wings against SD but as almost all other clans they too fell short of giving SD a real challenge.

Crazy88 fortified their spot amongst the A-playoff seeds as they took down FU 2-0 and ATG 2-1 while losing to SD 0-2. They will have a hard time proving themselves as they will face either tVS or SD in the A-playoff semifinals. However, in the playoffs the games will be best of 5 so perhaps they can grind their opponents down with a good choice of home map while taking another win on the remaining three. They have a really good lineup but must really outperform themselves if they want to make it into the EQL16 final.

Fraggers United woke up in the final day of group games and they did really well against the much more active team Chosen. On E1M2 CSN had the upper hand the full twenty minutes but DM2 was an open story. In the end a couple of quadruns from CSN sealed the deal for a 2-0 victory for CSN. Later that night FU also played versus C88 but fell short as C88 played a really nice general repetition before their upcoming A-playoff semifinal.
