Division 2 Preview

2013-09-19 16:11 by Hooraytio

Here is a look at division 2.

Division 2 Preview

EQL 17 division 2 consists of twelve teams with various skill sets. Eight of the teams will reach the quarter finals so there is room for some errors along the way. Some of the teams will have a really rough ride but I hope they stick with it and have some fun along the way

Fraggers United

Fraggers United come from a disappointing stint in last season’s division 1 having lost all games they played 0-2. They came close to beating Chosen on DM2 but apart from that it was a season they would rather forget. They also had the chance to get revenge on CSN in the division 1 b-playoff semi finals but failed to show up on several occasions. They have fired no-shows Pangela and case from last season but kept Anza, Focu, Culkey, Katsku, Kippo, Buggy and added Hell from Satanic Slaughter Clan. Fraggers United was the only team together with Chosen who took the opportunity to play a few games in the Warmup division of EQL 17. The games were close and ended up with a mere 40 frag difference over 5 maps (1-2 and 2-0 in favour of FU). With their best team on the field Fraggers United will be one of the top contenders in division 2. DM2 will most likely be their weapon of choice.

Immortals

Immortals played even less than Fraggers United last season scoring two 0-2 losses at the hands of Oclan and Chosen. They struggled the whole season with inactivity and this season looks grim too as they have lost Persuader, Shaka and Niw. However, the four players who are left are good and they managed to put up nice resistance to CSN in a recent practice games over two maps. They have a balanced lineup with regards to the maps but with the absence of Persuader they lack a clear leading figure. If they succumb to inactivity they will end up in the top 5 without a sweat.

Chosen

Chosen has recruited heavily almost every season of the clan’s existence. Only three players remain from EQL 15 and seven players remain from EQL 16. The only loss compared to EQL 16 is Mm who went to Crazy 88. New recruits are Xero, Krab and Elguapo while Hooraytio, Hagge, Flintheart, Defcon_5, Pollox, Ake_Vader and Kalma remain from last season. Krab join forces with Hooraytio again for the first time since 2002 when they played together in the infamous clan Gamblers and Xero, who played for CSN in EQL 14, returns to the clan again after a short time in Suddendeath 2.
Last season was tough but rewarding for CSN as they faced both hard and mid skilled opponents in division 1. They ended up in the B-playoffs, which was a disappointment activity wise, after 6 losses and 3 wins during the group stage with the E1M2 versus Crazy 88, where they ended up with just 7 frags less, being the brightest moment of the season. This time around their lineup is good enough for them to be able to win division 2. However, the road is long and they will need to field their best guys along with some focus to win it.

More Bastards

Polish/Russian clan More Bastards features a band of players with plenty of 4on4 experience. VVD, Tempo, Anupko, Timon and Dot (deadmorozzzz) won the division 2 final in EQL 16 with Russian clan Pew Pew Blaster while others such as Tom and Goniec come from the respected Polish clan Demolition Crew. This clan will reach the playoffs for sure but the question is if they have enough time to really get their act together for real great achievements. Anupko and Tom will be vital for their ability to have an impact on this division. DM2 and DM3 should work better for them than E1M2 based on their lineup but Especially Anupko is dangerous on every map.

Mob of Oddballs

Mob of Oddballs were really inactive last season up until the last week when they got their gears in order and sprinted away to a top 5 position and a place in the playoffs of division 2. They cruised through the quarter finals but came to a grinding halt in both the semi finals and bronze game versus Pew Pew Blaster and Lost Legion respectively. Their core of players remains the same with Driz, Dirtbox, Darff and Mushi although an active player like Itmik will be missed. Mofo will most likely end up in the lower part of division 2 as the opposition is much tougher this season.

Division 99

Division 99 are back for their second season but they are missing Desmo and Tsobo who were two of their most active players last season. They have added a few new names out of which Adde really stands out as their star player. Sassa is still in the lineup even though he didn’t play a map last season. If Adde plays a lot and they can get a core of players play regularly I can see them end up near the middle but that is a lot of ifs and buts so for now I have them closer to the bottom.

Paras

Paras made it all the way to the division 2 finals in EQL 16 but once there they only played two maps before calling it a day versus the stronger team Pew Pew Blaster. Netspider/Paniagua is now back in their lineup together with Rookie who last season was signed for The Black Ants in division 1. Junkass and Knave have left and this makes Paras a little weaker compared to last season. They are ok on all maps with a slight advantage on DM3. They should be able to make it into the playoffs but not much further.

Tactical and Powerless Amigos

TPA had a rough ride last season and this one will not be easy either. They have been around for quite a while but so far haven’t been able to achieve much success. A 5th place in EQL 9 division 3 is their best result so far. Mipa is their best player but he just hasn’t been able to carry the team to any map wins during the last couple of seasons. If they are to win any maps here it will be versus D99, LL or Mofo provided that these clans don’t field their absolute best lineups in the game versus TPA. TPA should get some kind of medal for sticking with QW through all these rough seasons though. Well fought and hope to see them in a lot of games this season.

The Team

The Team is more or less The Black Ants from EQL 16 with the addition of Kloze from Demolition Crew. They have lost Essoid but since they have gained Kloze this loss should not hamper their game at all. Kloze is better than Essoid on all maps and Essoid only really raised the level of their play on DM3. Their only win last season came against Chosen in a close 2-1 competition. Apart from that they lost 3 other games 0-2 and went down 0-3 against Anzas Tappra Gossar in the division 1 B-playoffs semifinals. This season they should manage a top 4 position and quite possibly a place in the final. It will depend on how much Kloze will play but also Kopytko and Er will be important pieces of their starting lineup.

Lost Legion

Lost Legion performed well during EQL 16 and made it all the way to the bronze game in divison 2 where they defeated Mob of Oddballs 3-2 in a very entertaining series. They have kept all of their most active players like Gore, Eb, Norules, Turbo and Pericles. The most interesting addition is UK player Maschine who has performed well in mixes lately although rumors have it he will be joining Mob of Oddballs instead. Be that as it may they will still have a rather good lineup and will make it into the playoffs. Later when facing the tougher opponents in the playoffs they will most likely weigh too lightly to make it all the way to the final.

Klaphat

Klaphat looks hot on the paper but are they even around to play some games? With Niw, Xenic, Crazymac and Whimp these guys could very well win the whole shebang. I fear that they are not active enough but perhaps they can prove me wrong. These guys are good on all maps and with the experience of Crazymac, flamboyancy of Niw and hot LG of Xenic they are a crew to look out for. Whimp also has years of service and Tsobo is a good addition when it comes to activity.

God Blessed

These guys are all located in North America and will suffer the usual ping torment. Antilag should help them to some extent though and with Blood Dog taking the lead they should be able to take a few scalps in this division. Other than that I don’t know much about them so feel free to fill me in.

Estimated outcome if all clans are active:

1 Chosen
2 Fraggers United
3 The Team
4 Immortals
5 Klaphat
6 More Bastards
7 Lost Legion
8 Paras
9 Mob of Oddballs
10 God Blessed
11 Division 99
12 Tactical and Powerful Amigos
