Division 1 update

2013-10-14 11:51 by Hooraytio

Some mid-season reflections...

Division 1 update

The first five weeks has seen moderate action from the clans in division 1. Seven games have been played and Firing Malfunction has been the most active clan. There are 5 weeks left including this one and all clans have between four and six games left to play.

Suddendeath

Suddendeath has played three games and the only map loss so far came in their 2-1 win against tVS. They look as strong as last season and Carapace has continued to carry the clan on his shoulders. As of late Carapace is the only player starting to come close to the level Milton has been on for several seasons now. In other news Rst has rejoined the team and put in a solid effort in Suddendeaths win against The Norse averaging 61 frags per map. I asked him about the reason for his return and he replied it was because I had written Mawe was a better player than him in my season preview. It will be interesting to see what Rst can contribute with during the rest of the season. Suddendeath are yet to play versus Crazy88, apart from the rematches versus tVS, TN and CMFS, but as things are going now I expect nothing less than two straight 2-0 wins versus C88 as well.

Firing Malfunction

As far as my preview goes Firing Malfunction has really over performed and are sitting in second spot at this moment. Two convincing 2-0 wins against Crazy88 and The Norse respectively has made them a contender for the semifinals. They also came close to winning a map against both Suddendeath and tVS. Hlt has proven to be a real star under pressure and Reppie is showing his old speed and skill here and there. From the looks of it FM should make it to the semis and it is up to TN and C88 to shape up in the rematch if they want to give FM a run for their money. I can definitely see FM steal a map from tVS in the rematch but SD will most likely be too hard.

the Viper Squad

The Viper Squad are struggling a bit with their new lineup and have used five players so far. The lack of Xantom and Ihminen is noticeable and Milton hasn’t really reached his top level. However, they still won a map against Suddendeath in their 1-2 loss which was really good considering they had a whole new lineup versus the core of Suddendeath plus new recruit Mawe. tVS also pressured Sd on E1M2 but Carapace turned out to be too strong with good backup from his mates. tVS only has two played games and will need to raise the tempo a little but during the last part of the season. The games between tVS and TN/C88 will be interesting to see since they haven’t met in EQL17 as of yet.
TVS 2-0 win against CMFS still tells me they are a strong team and will not face the risk of elimination before the semifinals.

The Norse

The Norse has had a hard time so far in EQL17 and are battling with Crazy88 to avoid the fifth place at the moment. They took a nice grip of fourth place when beating C88 2-1 in the first of two matches but unless they want to make this super scary they need to bag some points against the other clans as well. They were beaten soundly by SD 2-0 and came close on one map against CMFS but still lost 0-2. The rematches against CMFS and C88 will be vital to their success but depending on their form they can be a threat to tVS as well in the two games to come. Rikoll and Votary has lead the charge, Od is looking stable as usual but they need a little more brute force from En_Karl if they want to make it in the playoffs.

Crazy88

The start of the season has been somewhat disappointing for C88 as I imagine they had hoped to win versus both CMFS and TN. However, after two initial losses albeit winning a map versus TN their fate looks grim and they will need some stellar play from superstar Kingpin to put some wins in the book. The games against SD could be used as training grounds as they prepare to take on TN and CMFS in the rematches. Crazy88 is still a team that could beat any of the other four on any given day but they still need to step up and show it. As it looks now it is either C88 or TN that will miss the playoffs but there are many games left and either of them can still turn this around.

Yeah we will play it if possible. Just saying that we haven't been as passive as it seems, because 2 scheduled games were not played and we wasted to Sunday evenings already because of that.

Unless you want to give them another chance I will take note of this information at the end of the regular season.

Thanks!

We have agreed on a game with C88 on two different Sundays already, and they were a no show both times. So if you want to increase our "activity" you can mark it as a wo. :)
