EQL7 Summer signups are open!

2008-04-29 21:11 by Itsinen

The summer is getting closer but we haven't forgotten our fellow quakers!

The signups are now open!

As the signups are open don't forget that you signup for a 2on2 and a 4on4 league. Remember the max of 8 players in your team, so consider and ask around who will be active and around for this season. The regular season is only 5 weeks long so your clanmates should be able to tell if they can play or not!

There will also be a teambuilding for the rookies as usually; we just hope that there will be enough teams to make it interesting for them as well.
http://www.quakeworld.nu/forum/viewtopic.php ?id=2949

For those who have not heard or seen any news about upcoming EQL I suggest reading the following link. It's shortly about the biggest changes for this season:
http://www.quakeworld.nu/news/283/

Signups closes on Saturday the 10th 18:00 CEST.

For those who are searching a clan or building one:
http://www.quakeworld.nu/forum/viewforum.php ?id=11

Be fast as there is not much time until the season begins!

And last but not least, read the rules! There are quite many changes!

Happy signups!

The admins

OMFG KALA IZ BACK!!!1

#2 2008-05-10 19:33 by 1tsinen (83.102.109.XXX)

Considering the amount of that same sentence on irc/comments allaround it's whine willg :)

#3 2008-05-10 12:58 by willgurht (213.114.133.XXX)

it's not whine, it's constructive critisism.

But yeah, now we have to decide who is our 8th players.

And might have to change later on. Cos someone else will show up. But it aint that big of a problem.

#4 2008-05-10 12:49 by 1tsinen (88.195.26.XXX)

Hoora: whine doesn't help atm, when will you get that?;)

#5 2008-05-10 00:52 by marvel (82.33.87.XXX)

good work guys look forward to the new system in place.

#6 2008-05-09 16:58 by Hooraytio (89.160.23.XXX)

8 player limit is not a good idea... when will you get this?

#7 2008-05-09 07:46 by Skillah (217.76.20.XXX)

nevermind,
just read the rules a bit better :)

"There is a player limit of 8 players/clan. With this we hope to increase the activity on the scene."

#8 2008-05-09 07:33 by Skillah (217.76.20.XXX)

Is there a limit of players you can assign to a team?

#9 2008-05-07 19:38 by 1tsinen (83.102.109.XXX)

There is one thing I have to say about the kenyas. There has only been "1 vote/team" all the seasons (afaik), so even clans that could have included as an example 5 players that would like to play kenya, and 3 that doesn't want to have to play kenya, probably voted no! Since those who doesn't like the kenyas tend to be much more "against" kenyas than those who like to play them as a "must" -> the scores of these polls kind of have sucked so far :) . So there should be a proper "all players from the league vote". And maybe we can arrange one during season so you can personally vote your own opinion! This will ofc affect next EQL (and the players that actually plays are the ones voting, not the idling ones). Opinions on this one?

#10 2008-05-07 18:29 by mushis (194.65.103.XXX)

I would like to see other custom 4on4 map being developed - since cmt ones aren't so well accepted because they're all big. one without shaft, smaller, with a "big room"

map makers where are you :D

#11 2008-05-07 18:25 by mushis (194.65.103.XXX)

the admins are trying their best and some of the changes are really good. I'de like to see extended/regular map polls though - the easiest way to everyone shut up :)

we all want the best for quake. thats nr. 1 - what we want nr. 2 are our personal preferences.

#12 2008-05-07 15:36 by Kalma (88.112.65.XXX)

CMT maps tend to have big rooms and all item types. Instead of this dm3-like pent+shaft+RA+YA deal, I'd rather see a map closer to dm2 and/or e1m2 style.

I agree with Blaze about quality of games. Some NQR season had custom maps in div1 - including finals. It was kind of a sad sight when the players didn't even know where all the spawns were and where to go at start... You might think that div1 clans would care enough to learn basics of the maps in play, but they don't. They are just as lazy as everyone else when it comes to learning new maps.

#13 2008-05-07 15:29 by 1tsinen (83.102.109.XXX)

And about the kenyas... There haven't really been "found" any new considerable kenyas instead of cmt3/4. And trying to find new 4on4 kenya maps in should we say ½ evening might be hard, especially when the signups are open a short time and it would have been a new map for everybody to learn in less than 2 weeks in that case.

And to Blaze: Btw, think about the cmt maps -> your skill level gets lower -> you get more pracs :)

#14 2008-05-07 15:26 by 1tsinen (83.102.109.XXX)

Hedgepig: I don't understand that if we don't even have almost any time to rewrite rules, we would have to listen to the opinions if nobody has time after day X to write them. Now the options of this season was: we make the rules fast and don't ask questions and have a season OR then NO season at all. We like to listen to people that's not the problem, we just didn't have time for it. And if it would have been 2 days then somebody would have said: "I were on vacation so make it 10 days" -> last eql. There are actually reasons why we are strict right away with things this season, we will probably not be in such a hurry for next season. :/

#15 2008-05-07 14:24 by blAze (217.152.87.XXX)

bps: "a serious try" is a long way from playing a map for thousands of times over many years against top clans. The fact remains that the quality of gameplay will be very low compared to tb3. I don't think I'll ever like CMT3, CMT4 is cool though although it could be simplified and streamlined a bit. The penta e.g. is a bit too much of a hassle. I'd replace e1m2 with CMT4 any day. :)

#16 2008-05-07 14:14 by Hedgepig (84.203.144.XXX)

trash, why are you trying to silence people from giving their feedback?

I have no problem with new maps. I just don't like it when CMT3 and CMT4 are consistently rammed down our throats against the will of the majority.

My own opinion on the CMT3 + CMT4 forced, I have no problem with a kenya twinge to summer tourneys, if that is your tradition. I would support that, but would sooner take completely new maps, or even all kenya maps without TB3. This would put a different slant to the cup, making it more of a "fun-oriented" summer league instead.

Regarding the league admins' decision to not make public any of the proposed changes before they were set in stone: I think it was a very bad idea. I know Zalon's reasoning, you did not want to delay the signups. That does not mean you should exclude the public. You could give a 48 hour window allowing for feedback, and following that, a 24 hour window for admins to revise their decision.

Regarding Zalon's point: "Please take a look at previous seasons of EQL, the so called kenya maps have been in all seasons except for the first. This is nothing new." This is a very worrying attitude. It allows a handful of admins to force their preferences upon us, and then use this as a precedent for doing so again in the future. We are lucky that we still have the NQR to prevent the veto of the EQL admins from standardising changes that the majority do not want.

#17 2008-05-07 14:10 by blAze (217.152.87.XXX)

Let me just clear out that I'm not demanding any rule changes, for me it's not a big deal. Just wanted to point out a few things. :)

"So you sink to a level of new clans, excellent, now we're on equal grounds :)"

That was my point exactly. So do we want that the quality of gameplay in div1 matches sinks to div3-5 level? Is that what specs and players want to see, instead of finetuned div1 gameplay in tb3. If that's the case, then there is no problem.

#18 2008-05-07 13:03 by trash (90.227.152.XXX)

we dont "force" players to do anything. if you dont want to play the 2 added (OLD) maps, then dont whine? just dont sign up. Amazing how some players cant even think of playing anything else then the 3 oldest maps in the world. hey,,give it a try, you just might like it!

#19 2008-05-07 12:42 by bps (81.235.187.XXX)

"I've played CMT3 maybe once or twice (not a good map IMHO), so my play in it will be more or less pointless running around, with no tactics."

Or maybe, when all this discussion have cooled down, you'll realise that "no tactics" depends on the fact that you haven't given the map a serious try - yet. You'll say "oh well, let's call Topi & co for a tactic meeting on cmt3" and write down a sassa-cmt3.txt, well hidden in your deepest tVS-dungeons! And maybe you will even start to like it, with the sun pouring in through your window blinds...

#20 2008-05-07 12:02 by Slajer (86.61.46.XXX)

"I've played CMT3 maybe once or twice (not a good map IMHO), so my play in it will be more or less pointless running around, with no tactics."

So you sink to a level of new clans, excellent, now we're on equal grounds :)

All you top division teams will stick to your bellowed 3 maps anyway, so no fear in loosing any professionalism there tbh.

#21 2008-05-07 11:30 by Zalon (80.167.139.XXX)

#20 - Hooraytio and others
Please take a look at previous seasons of EQL, the so called kenya maps have been in all seasons except for the first. This is nothing new.

About changing the rules, there is a good reason why we won't do this. We will however listen to the players/teams that have participated in this season and form the next season after their suggestions.

Just like we have done this season, people wanted shorter seasons, less idle clans, and no constant changes that will prolong the league's idle time.

If we were to change any rules now, we would first have to ask the players what changes they want, then find a compromise for what the different players have suggested, then change the rules, then wait for another wave of whine since the rules didn’t end up like EVERYONE wanted.

However, if this was a fantasy version of the quakeworld scene, where we wouldn’t hear any new whine about the rule changes, then we would still have a problem with changing the rules. Since other players would want other rule changes as well, now you got yours, and they will demand theirs; Server settings, Ping issues, Clients, Scripts, Playoff System... just have a look at the rules, and I’m sure there is something else people disagree on.

All this would delay not only the signup, but also the regular season, and we would end up just like last season, with a long half-idle season and lots of idle clans.

We didn’t do changes to make you all sad; we made the changes to comply with suggestions from last season, and to build a fun summer season of EQL.

#22 2008-05-07 08:50 by samon (195.205.147.XXX)

I agree with blAze. I don't like it that you force clans to play kenya maps. Regular/extended map pool should be used in this league like in NQR. Or "Make the map choosing rule so that each clan drops one map of the 5, then play the remaining 3" - that's a very good idea if you still want to force clans to play kenya.

#23 2008-05-07 07:56 by blAze (217.152.87.XXX)

"new maps make it a bit easier for newish teams and players to get started when playing against older teams and players"

More maps make the game less professional. The more maps you have, the lower standard of gameplay on them you'll get. I've played CMT3 maybe once or twice (not a good map IMHO), so my play in it will be more or less pointless running around, with no tactics. Probably the same for many others.

#24 2008-05-07 07:45 by VVD (80.95.45.XXX)

I have no time to play pracs on tb3, but u want to force me play pracs on kenya.
I'm not "16 years old school-boy" and can't to play pracs on kenya 6 hours per day. :-(

P.S. U are admin - u are always right. :-[

#25 2008-05-06 18:10 by Hooraytio (90.229.186.XXX)

that sounds good Kalma, but i dont think they qill change anything, they just posted their new rules (8players) and mappool (suckymaps) and didnt let ppl get a chance to give feedback...

#26 2008-05-06 16:53 by Kalma (88.112.65.XXX)

Make the map choosing rule so that each clan drops one map of the 5, then play the remaining 3. That will limit "home map abuse" where a clan that are good on just one map will do well.

#27 2008-05-06 16:18 by 1tsinen (88.195.26.XXX)

To LW: The extended pool was fine... but the only thing was that there were not really many clans to play extended against. You've gotta remember that even if kenya is the mappool not everybody plays kenya even if they are available as maps.

Ps. I don't like cmt4 but very many players do like it, so I respect it and are willing to play it.

#28 2008-05-06 15:11 by trash (90.227.152.XXX)

#12 wrote "What about nqr11 system - 'each team must to choose "Regular" or "Extended" map pool'?"

This is not nqr, this is eql. As we have explained we wanted to try something new and hopefully fun and expand the way we play the game. If we never try we will never know if it sux/is cool. We think that expanding the mappool with 2 old maps (they have been around for ages) will give the matches some edge. All i can say is,,dont like it? dont sign up. We will not change the maps.

#29 2008-05-06 14:06 by ÅV (80.244.193.XXX)

It's a dynamic game. Even if the maps don't change, the situations on them will. :)

#30 2008-05-06 13:48 by Slajer (89.142.143.XXX)

Doesn\'t it get a bit boring to play the same 3 maps for more than 10 years? :)

cmt3 and cmt4 have been around for quite some time now and i find it highly unlikely that clans haven\'t found time to learn them yet.

I don\'t like cmt3 that much but at least the \"new\" maps make it a bit easier for newish teams and players to get started when playing against older teams and players.

#31 2008-05-06 08:03 by LethalWiz (85.225.209.XXX)

As been said, forcing cmt-maps upon clans who don´t wanna play them neither got the time to properly learn them to be able to compete with kenya-loving clans, stand a big risk of making those clans leave the tourney halfway thru or could even explain why so few clans have signed at all atm.

It´s up to you admins, but I see this as a big risk at this time year when people just need one reason to enjoy the sun and have a beer instead of staying at home playing qw.

Really, think about it.

#32 2008-05-05 23:46 by Hooraytio (90.229.186.XXX)

I agree, let clans decide if they wanna tb3 or any map whatsoever, then kenya lovers can have a go at ruins, schloss, cmt maps and what not.

why use badly designed cmt3 and 4 only? let kenya lovers play eachother on any map they like instead. that would really be a change from recent 4on4 tourneys

#33 2008-05-05 20:21 by VVD (80.95.45.XXX)

> for 4on4: dm2, dm3, e1m2, cmt3, cmt4

hm...
Our team never played this maps.
What about nqr11 system - 'each team must to choose "Regular" or "Extended" map pool'?
