I got together with my former wingman in Suddendeath - bps, to talk some about his new clan etc. Happy reading.

1. Hey bps, tnx for letting us interview you. I think most of the scene knows who you are, but plz introduce yourself.

Well hello! I'm Jon, 25 year old webdesigner from Gamla Stan in Stockholm, Sweden.

2. Tell us a little about your quake career. How did it all start? and will it ever end? :D

Hehe.. I started off softly around ~98, a friend came over to my place and happily informed that you could type "/connect <ip>" and join an online server. I stunned, it was just amazing. So for the first years it was all ffa in RealQuake (maybe call it VanillaQuake) on a 33.6-modem. Then me and my friends started a clan called Painmakers that participated in The Mean Tournament (3on3 league, held on the Zoo-server), which we won, defeating clans like Clan Tjack, InQ and LsD. Then my fiends stopped playing, and I was forced to convert to QW (against my will hehe). After a while it became all 2on2 for me, with different mates. I can't really remember, but my first 4on4 appearances was in the beginning of 2000, in clans like 6p, Second and some other. Will it ever end - I hope not, I don't wanna. qw4life.

3. You have been around for a long time and seen all the "new" mods, models etc etc. what are you using atm, client, settings and what is the biggest changes made in the clients over the years in your oppinion?

I recently upgraded to Ezquake 1.9 stable, which is a neat version with well though out features. Although some things (like keymap-settings toggling to swedish keyboard layout) just makes it more troublesome to handle. On startup, I manually have to exec some things, and manually alter some values, to get it all right. Like jumping in a car, adjusting seat and rearview mirrors :) For the big changes, I must say cl_independentphysics is a real big leap. And the new mouse input (ezq1.9) choices. Since I play "lego quake" I never cared that much for models and stuff like that, but fullbright ammoboxes and grenades are sweet things.

4. Ok, now lets "go there"! You played in my clan suddendeath for several years but last season (nqr) you decided to traitor SD and start a new clan called Star Alliance with goblin. What was the idea with this mr traitor? huh?

Haha.. here we go. I wanted to try something new, that's basically it. I played in SD many years. And I really like all guys in there, we've become really good friends, also out in the real world. It was just before NQR11, and I talked alot with goblin and reppie, and they were also motivated to start something fresh. Although reppie still refuses to remove the fs´-tag from his irc-nick :) Then all the pieces just fell in place!

5. So tell us a little about this =SA= clan of yours. It looks like you collected some of the worlds best duelplayers and put together a team of it. mr dm2 Locktar, reppie who won QH lan final vs nabbe, mawe, yourself and so on. Do you guys build your game on individual skills or have you somehow gotten TP out of these guys?

I wasnt like "let's create a duel clan" or so, it just happen to end up this way. Lakso were in the same boat as me, also goblin. For Mawe it was more like: I hate to face him, so I gotta recruit him! :) Reppie has that very strong motivation as I have. And out of nowhere LocKtar showed interest and wanted to try out some serious 4on4, so then he was signed. No, this is 4on4, and we've really tried hard to get a working teamplay. And I think our efforts have payed off quite well. We're often having talks about how to play on certain maps and versus certain teams. We've also together studied some demos of ourself playing, commenting what was good and what was bad.

6. Obviously you guys are doing something right since you ended up taking the bronze in NQR gold cup. Whats your expectation´s of the upcoming EQL tourney? do you guys aim to kick some tvs but or what?

Hehe.. This is the time of the year we all wanna go outdoors, and not be obliged to prac hard to keep up the shape. We will "play just for the fun", leaning backwards and chill out. We will listen to goblins wise advices on how to play cmt3/cmt4, because we're all kinda unused to these maps. I rather only play cmt3 of these two, while cmt4master lakso will take my place in there. We will kick tVS' butt the coming fall...

7. Yeh about the map pool, we decided to extend it with cmt3, cmt4, do you think this is a good/bad choice? do you think we should stick with the old tb3 for all time to come and never ever try anything else? i know much people has oppinions about it.

My personal opinion would be to just have one more map as a starter. And that would be cmt3. If people learns to live with this and it's appreciated, maybe it could be extended with further map(s). The skill level will sink on those maps, and I don't know if I like that. But it's fresh; maybe an investment for qw's future...

8. The qw scene has had a big boost lately with rookie teams building up and playing in nqr/eql and thats the best thing for the game. Do you see any upcoming star(s) among the new guys?

I'm personally training Supernova in duelling, he's become my padawan. He will soon rise to be a knight in shining dm4 armor :) Otherwise Lob0 is a real specstar, credz.

9. So give us some drama. what do you love/hate on the servers, fakers, lamers and so on.

I hate to "wait 5 seconds" to change map on a server :) Also to trix n' fix with server.txt-files to make new servers appear in ezquake serverbrowser. I've stopped caring about fakers, but I really vomit from the tuoppispam on qizmos...

10. Give us some predictions for your div (1) in this eql. Who will win and who will end up last?

1: the Viper Squad. 7: Bear Beer Balalaika. But those cmt maps will make it possible for many upsets!
