Division 4b Preview

Division 4b Preview:

I got the job for covering div4b this season and I hope this little preview will help you get to know the teams a little better. I?ve tried to be as objective as possible, but if you still feel your team has been treated unfairly then you can use the upcoming games to prove me wrong :)

Bufflarna flyger i luften

Players to watch: canius

Copy-Paste clearly is the way to go with such a name :). If my mind isn?t playing any tricks on me I think the translation was something along the lines of ?Flying Buffalos? (Sorry if I?m raping the Swedish language :/ ). Anyways this team has proven in the past that they can play the game by adding a NQR Div5 Title to their trophy cabinet. However I haven?t seen any of them active since, so they are quite hard to peg on where they will finish in the standings. Clearly a lineup filled with ex-HGC member canius will be good for a couple of wins, but I think they will need to wait for EQL3 before they can make a run at div3.

My prediction: Mid-table

Da Quaking Manjakks

Players to watch: frans (jrp) and herr.Z

The most active clan during EQL1 playing an impressive 44 maps (25-19 map-record). You can tell they have grown quite fond of deathmatch after switching from ctf to 4on4 just before NQR7. They have pretty much been looking to promote to div3 since but ended up just falling short each time. With jrp playing an active role their chances at finally succeeding could increase significantly.

My prediction: Going to fight for a top3 finish

Defs

Players to watch: mushi, coinz

Defs is a pretty solid team that has gained a lot of experience throughout the past EQL and NQR seasons. Their downfall has always been the constant ping disadvantage they face which usually makes them finish 2-3 wins short of where they actually should end up. While they will probably have a lot of trouble with the strong opposition in this Division, I?m still very curious to see how they will fare against RoT on a Portuguese server.

My prediction: Bottom of the table

Dybbuk

Players to watch: fox and tuna

Dybbuk ended up in div4 as a wild-card, i.e. got dropped down a division even though their record was good enough to stay in div3. They are a clan with a long history dating back to 1996 and for the past seasons always have been coming together on LAN to play their EQL / NQR matches. In the past dm2 has been their weapon of choice with dm2-quad-god fox making sure that they were close to untouchable. Last season some of that dominance has crumbled while at the same time they were able to pick up their game on dm3 and e1m2 a couple of notches, making them a well balanced clan now. I?m also looking forward to seeing what my regular sparring-partner and cmt-map secret weapon moskito can pull off in EQL2.

My prediction: Top3

LOLBARN

Players to watch: mawe

LOLBARN is a team of cpm?ers that also occasionally play qw. Past season they were able to win apokalypze for their cause who carried them to a decent 10-5 map record, however with GTG squeaking into div1 at the last second and apokalypze rejoining his old team he has left a huge void. Unless they recruit 1-2 players I think they will probably drop to div5 for EQL3.

My prediction: Bottom of the table

Morituri

Players to watch: fer, nih and gore

This team had a really good run (14-8 map record) in EQL1 and were the only ones that could actually defeat NoNaMe who later went on to win the division. Morituri has top3 potential if their best 4 players play all season, which would be a pleasant surprise. At this point I?d like to issue a warning to their opponents that this is probably the craziest (crazy in a good way that is :) ) team in the entire EQL, so you better watch out!

My prediction: Going to fight for a top3 finish

Rebellion of Thunder

Players to watch: nitemare, lake and vanquish (latency)

Rebellion of Thunder is coming off a hot season in div5, where they pretty much toyed with their opposition whilst sporting an impressive 18-1 map-record. The good news is, they will be meeting much tougher opponents this time around, so they might actually have to work for a couple of their wins. Having said that, I still think this is their division to lose and they are the clear favourites to promote to div3 next season. Besides their star players of last season (nitemare and vanquish) it will be interesting to see what kind of impact the addition of cruelty will have to their game.

My prediction: Division winners

Smack That Ass

Players to watch: soma

Smack That Ass have to be very happy about dropping to div4 this time around after getting manhandled in div3 in EQL1 (5-24 map-record). They also have lost their best player wimpeeh to inactivity who pretty much carried them throughout last season. Their strength lies in the quad-running of soma, who at this level can take over the game by himself on a good day. Their problem has always been their consistency, so while they might pull off a surprising win one week, they will also lose games in which they are the clear favourites.

My prediction: Mid-table

Projected Standings at the end of the season:

1. RoT
2. Dybbuk
3. DQM
4. Morituri
5. Buff
6. Sta
7. defs
8. LOLBARN
