Leftovers? AQ

2006-02-01 21:20 by menth0l

This game was one that I personally anticipated to be a close and entertaining match. This was because both teams had been in great shape in pracs as well as league games. I was not disappointed.

DM3

The start goes to l0, with murdoc finding himself in a good position despite getting a pretty bad spawn. In fact, the first 5 or so minutes of this map are pretty much all murdoc, running quads with his lg poised. He also claims the second pent. His run finally ends just as the quad+pent runs out and he is ambushed by sandy at NG. After this cge tries to step up and grabs the quad but is ALSO ambushed by sandy, this time at window-quad. He bores and a huge melee ensues in the quad area, with 3 members from each team fighting it out in one huge free-for-all.

After the smoke clears Lohjan Dag himself, Diki, finds himself holding an RL at RA-low. Not one to miss such a great opportunity, LD proceeds to grab the armour and keep RA locked down for AQ for the next few minutes. He is killed at the quad before the 10-minute pent by some tenacious and even lucky flooding by l0. He manages to come by another RL and armour before the penta, but none of his team mates decide to show up so the powerup goes to l0. There is some mm1 whine directed towards the many spectators following the game, giving everyone a nice 3-5% packet loss. Perhaps one of these days people will learn how to use cams but I doubt it.

Dragon uses the penta to secure RA for Leftovers, and they dominate the map for the following minutes with cge and murdoc leading the way. They delay the 6 minute quad almost to perfection for the last pent, but almost lose the pent to Lohjan Dag, who cites lag as the reason for missing the powerup. The rest of the map is pretty much cosmetic, even though AQ keep fighting. 1-0 to Leftovers.

Player of the map
Mr Valla JR, murdoc.

DM2

Diki gets low RL, insane gets quad and high RL but is killed by Diki. Out of rockets, Diki retreats to tele and is attacked by a GL guy. Diki is pretty frustrated as his Harvester grabs both the GL pack and the YA leaving Diki with nothing. Naturally, now that Harvester has the GL and YA, he is unstoppable and easily claims the next quad denying 2 Leftovers players with rocket launchers. After he grabs the quad he unwisely decides to use the RL instead, and as a result is taken down by the master kurwa himself, insane. Insane putters about a bit, then grabs a quad and drives it into a wall ? la JKova.

AQ keeps control of the map for the next few minutes, disrupted momentarily by some nice quad steals courtesy of murdoc and dragon. Neither manages to make too much of an impact though, and AQ are quick to regain control. sandy and Diki work the quad-secret-low area nicely, sweeping the low RLs. Sandy dishes out some very impressive quad runs, taking out 1, sometimes 2 enemy RLs and grabbing the lower as it spawns. Then DM2-machine insane kills them both and takes the map back for Leftovers.

With 4 minutes to go and a frag difference in the 80's, AQ know they just have to stay out of map lock to win. TuoppI leaves the computer (Sauna? Who knows!) and the remaining 3 AQ players play the evasive game. 1-1.

Player of the map
Sandy. Nice quadruns and overall aggressiveness.

E1M2

Diki gets quad, sandy gets first RL. Using the quad Diki grabs the second RL while sandy moves to YA and secures it. Dream start for AQ. Not for long though: Diki gets flooded almost right away and sandy runs out of rockets and has to play a little CS at GA, giving l0 some breathing room. Unable to find rockets anywhere, he is eventually taken down by spawns.

Cge assumes control of the map for a short while, but makes a mistake at YA and fails to show up for the quad which Lohjan Dag grabs, taking ricks0n out at GA. sandy and Diki pin Leftovers down for a while, until murdoc takes LD out with some fancy footwork at crossing. The next few minutes are like the Florida ballot, too close to call and confusing as hell. Control switches back and forth, with murdoc, Diki and sandy being key players.

Eventually Leftovers come out on top and start to close the gap that AQ so painstakingly opened up. They keep control of the YA side for the remainder of the map and even though AQ mounts a good offensive with about 2 minutes left, the frag difference is simply too much and Leftovers walks away with the victory.

Player of the map
Diki. Even though AQ lost, Lohjan Dag played a superb game.
