Div5 preview

2007-03-14 18:21 by Hooraytio

After some more research i put together another preview. This time its division 5 under the magnifying glass. Enjoy!

Division 5
The battle of the Hobbits

The maps
The map vote ended 8-3 in favour of TB3 thus making division 5 teams hate CMT maps even more than division 1. I think this might be a good thing since they now can focus on getting good on a fewer amount of maps to begin with.

The teams

Dot
Dot might have ended up dead last in the previous EQL season but back then they didn?t have Armadon. He has really brought some good offensive force to their game and this has resulted in 6 wins in 7 games so far in NQR10 Bronze A. Their only loss came versus Clan Cube Squad, not in EQL for this season, with 0-2 on DM3 and E1M2. They have beaten teams like J?garna, Drastic Collision and Respawn Addicts, all of which they will meet again in EQL division 5. Since Clan Cube Squad isn?t participating this season, they would have been in division 4 if they did, I foresee Dot as division 5 winners. They are good all around on TB3 and if Armadon plays all games they wont have much problems versus any team. I would also like to say that Darkstorm (Expert) has improved a lot, possibly from playing side by side with Armadon.

Strengths: One man Armydon, TB3
Weakness: Rely on one guy is dangerous

Corpse Grinders
Corpse Grinders didn?t participate in EQL4 but I think division 5 is the right place for them to start out in. They do however play in NQR10 Bronze A where they have played 3 games and lost 2. They managed to win a map versus J?garna but lost 2-0 to division 4 team Boomstick Ownators. In their first win of the season they managed to beat Clan Jrq from Switzerland. Corpse Grinders have somewhat equally skilled players with maybe Shaka and Wrdo sticking out as the better players. So far they haven?t lost on DM3 but haven?t won on DM2 but they have played too few games to draw any deeper conclusions from this. I think these guys can make it to top3 here with some good activity on the practice field.

Strengths: DM3, Shaka
Weakness: No real starplayer

Vitun Kova Bosse
Vitun Kova Bosse managed to earn themselves a 5th place in last season?s division 5. They scored 13 points in 8 games and they had a hard time versus teams like The Pimps, Shadow Death and Clan Cube Squad but they earned a nice point by winning a map versus the strong team Defs2. They will suffer some from having lost Itsinen to Clan Metally Troopers but now its time for player like Kebab and Yari to step up to the challenge. They have played 2 games in NQR10 and once again they lost 2-0 to Clan Cube Squad. On the other hand the beat oldschool clan Psycho Farmers 2-0 and they have a 50% win on both DM2 and DM3. They have the abilities to end up in top5 here if they keep practicing.

Strengths: Kebab, Yari
Weakness: Lost Itsinen

Allans Vittnen
These guys have been around as a clan for a few months and surely have learnt a lot. Since they added former Chosen member Picke to their team they have also begun to win some games. They didn?t play last EQL but they do compete in NQR10 Bronze B where they have won 1 game and lost 6. To their defense I should mention that many division 3-4 clans are in their group and so far Allans Vittnen have played and lost versus 4 of those. In the other 2 losses they met with Enemy Quad, currently in division 4 and Clan Tayto. Their loss versus Clan Tayto would normally have been an upset if it wasn?t for the fact that the Irish lads where reinforced by Killy from ASDF. Allans Vittnen seem to like E1M2 a lot and I think this map could earn them most of their points when losing 1-2. On the other hand they should be able to get some 3 pointers whenever Picke plays.
They should end up somewhere above middle here.

Strengths: Picke, E1M2
Weakness: Dangerous to rely too much on Picke

J?garna
J?garna placed themselves just below Vitun Kova Bosse last season and I think the middle of the table is where they can end up again. They also, as most clans, play in NQR10 where they have had a hard time so far losing 6 out of 7 games.
They impressed me by winning a map versus Dot even though Armadon played. If they can pull more stunts like that they should be able to earn a few more points than last seasons 7 points in 8 games. I think they could have done better in NQR10 if Health had been playing because they cant count on Lethalwiz to win the games by himself. I don?t think the other players are bad but they could use some offense which Health possesses.

Strengths: Lethalwizz, E1M2
Weakness: Inactive Health

Div Sub Zero
The Russians in this team haven?t got much 4on4 experience except Spz who use to play kinda solid as a former member of Noname Clan and Bear Beer Balalaika. I have pracced a few rounds versus them and they actually manage to win DM3 versus us, Chosen, even though they claimed it was because we hadn?t warmed up enough. With Spz running the quads and the other guys hanging out at the armours they should be able to win a few games this season. They also take part of the action in NQR10 Silver B where they have played one game which they lost versus Bear Beer Balalaika in a not so close battle over DM3 and DM2. A middle position here is what I would bet on for them.

Strengths: Spz
Weakness: Teamplay

Respawn Addicts
As the name implies these guys really like to spawn which they also did in the beginning. Now they are closely moving on from respawning into spawnfragging, at least versus some weaker clans. Last season they ended low in division 5 but their first official win was epic. The joy afterwards was unbelievable as they won vs Dot with 2-0. I have to quote Defcon5 after the game: ? I never forget that match on Dm2, wow, breathless, you cant imagine whats going on in TS and in our brains.? These guys provide the qw scene with some fresh spirit and I hope they manage to win more than once this season. They also play in NQR10 where they have won 2 and lost 2 games so far in Bronze A. This time around they lost versus Dot 0-2 but won versus J?garna 2-0, a clan to who they lost to in EQL4. As they continuously improve I foresee a spot in the middle for them.

Strengths: Improved a lot in short time
Weakness: Experience

In A Blaze
These guys have been around for a while, playing teamfortress, played in clan Quandrane some of them and played a shitload of other games. An interview with them can be found over at nqr.nu. They didn?t play last season but they do fight in the current NQR season.
They have managed to play 7 games in Bronze B but only won 1. All of their 6 losses where pretty understandable but they could as well have won a map versus Enemy Quad since at least DM3 was very close. Their only win so far was the result of a close DM3 followed by a crushing DM2 as they won 2-0 versus Clan Tayto. Even though they have improved some I think this season will be a good time for them to play a lot of games and learn a lot from it. They will end in the lower parts but come back stronger and better in EQL6.

Strengths: Equally skilled players
Weakness: Inexperienced

Clan Tayto
Ireland is back to in qw. This is the second Irish clan to sign up for EQL5.
Their current fighting in NQR10 Bronze B has resulted in 5 losses and 1 win. They did good to beat Allans Vittnen but since good player Killy from Asdf only is on a loan for NQR10 they might have a harder time repeating that performance in EQL5. I a looking forward to see these guys improve and I think this season can give them a lot of lessons to take with them to the next one.

Strengths: Dedication, plays a lot
Weakness: Rookie team

Passive Warriors
I know these Ukrainians have participated in some other season of EQL or NQR, just couldn?t fins them as the EQL1 page was down. Maybe it was that season. They aren?t too good though I?m afraid and they suffer some from bad pings. A low placement is not an upset for them or the scene.

Strengths: High ping games might help them a little?
Weakness: ?or not

The Vicious Vikings
The Norwegians aren?t familiar too me and I urge someone who knows about them to bring us up to speed here. Maybe someone from The Loser Squadron or Haggis knows about this team? Can?t say much about their strengths and weaknesses obviously.

That?s it for this time and I hope to see a good and active season from all the clans. Good luck!

Nice preview!

I haven't heard of the Vicious Vikings in a long time, but I'm quite sure their existence as a clan dates back to the good old days of 1996 (unless what we are seeing is a new clan with no relation to the old Vicious Vikings). It would seem that they are planning a grand come-back in this season of the EQL!
