Good games! In DM3 we were leading to the last second but Osams were able to turn the game to extra time. After that we were pretty much screwed. Damn it was close! :)

Our first EQL win in a while. GGs and thanks to Paras. It really could have gone either way with that last second equaliser on DM3.

DM3:
Wow, what a thriller! We had the marginally better start and had control of RA for the first 5-10 mins or so, but we failed to take quads and make them really count, so our lead was never very much. Paras managed to take pents 3 and 4 and built a small lead of about 20. We took control back with about 3 minutes to go and with a minute left we had a deficit of around 10 frags. Paras went into hide-mode and we went into seek-mode. We scrambled a few frags in the last 10 seconds but it didn't look to be enough, until a Paras player strafed onto one of my pines in the RL box with exactly 1 second left to tie the scores. I checked the demo and this was really something - the Paras guy is in no danger of being hit but then he strafes a long way to the right and the pine goes off under his feet with the countdown on "1 second". Of course, we had some kit and were able to take the overtime pent and the first few quads, and had good map control for all of overtime.

E1M2:
Paras had a good start and didn't let up. They got a lead of about 30 but then we pulled ourselves together and we snuck into a lead of 1 or 2 frags. It didn't last long though and Paras held the lead for the rest of the game. We did a nice job at YA but Paras took lots of RLs and always used them well at the quad room, thus stopping us from dealing out big damage.

DM2:
Another thriller! I think we had a slightly better start and we started to build a small lead - it was around 50 frags at one point. Then with about 7 minutes to go, Paras took over and as we frantically flooded to try and get it back, our lead dropped right down to around 20 and for a few moments, even less. I don't know who took it back but Pattah made a couple of really important streaks with RL and with quad, and Stefan and Manny did a good job in the last 2 mins to seal the win.

Overall this was a nice first competitive game for us since November (?) and our first win in EQL since last spring. We haven't practiced much and it showed at times on all 3 maps - hopefully we will improve because we have stiffer challenges ahead.

Paras: Thank you for a cool and pretty equal match. And good luck to you guys too! :)

Looks like great games, sounds like it too from the sweet gazreport. Congrats on being back in a division where you can have competitive close games osams!

Last season wasnt a disaster for osams. They had many chances to win maps and they played really well at times. Especially versus chosen.

Life happened. We stopped playing properly for about 3 years. Steppa now plays on a laptop, sitting on his sofa with his mouse and mousepad on the armrest of the sofa. Thomas/Gorbatjevtarzan plays on a laptop with a mouse on a crap wifi connection. Only me and manny have "normal" setups and neither of us a superactive anyway :)

- I sure do know how that feels! The days when I could aim are long gone. Should buy a monitor since that would probably improve things, but somehow I don't believe the difference is big enough and the inbuilt screen is good enough for all the other stuff I do 8)

Would be interesting to know what difference playing on wifi makes though. Maybe I should try to plug in a cable :)

When I tried to play on wifi, it was unplayable - lag spikes exactly every 60 seconds. I am changing ISP & router next week so will try it again then because I could do without the cables everywhere! Be

If your connection is unstable/spiky then changing to a cable might make a difference.

Can't really say I find it unstable. On pangela for example I have stable 51 ms, but on foppa I have 38-51 but that has probably more to do with my ping to the server and not because I play on wifi.

Hmm maybe I will look into buying a 120 hz monitor then. Would that make it as smooth as playing on a normal PC with 120 hz monitor, or will I still suffer because I play on a laptop? 8)

Wifi itself is not a problem and should generally add like max 1ms to latency. The problem comes from interference and bad or flapping signal strengths (sometimes also bad router / wlan card or chip). Wifi is very susceptible to these problems and that's why it sucks for many ppl.

Hagge: Depends how powerful your laptop is. The screen makes a huge difference though. I play "on a laptop" but in "clamshell" mode, i.e. it's closed on the desk and connected to an external keyboard, mouse and monitor. It's as smooth as my old normal PC setup was.

I have a CRT you could have, they're getting rare now so I couldn't let it go for less than £500 :E

Thanks for the replies guys! I tested playing with some bots yesterday and can't say it was that much better.. so don't think playing on the wifi is a problem.

Gonna start looking for a new monitor now, so beware! What's the best place to buy a monitor in the UK gaz/manny? :)

Er, playing with wifi vs cable won't affect playing on your own computer, just playing online :D

I haven't bought a monitor for ages and the one I have came straight from Apple, but whenever I need PC bits I go to www.ebuyer.com

LOL gaz, of course I understand that :) But instead of plugging in a cable and playing online I tried a few minutes with bots to see if it gave me a smoother experience than online with wifi 8) Of course 0 ms makes it smoother, but other than that I noticed no difference so I won't bother with a cable.

I find amazon usually pretty price competitive with things like monitors - that's where I bought my vx2268 from.

Who's your ISP Hagge? 38 on foppa shouldn't be too challenging to obtain I'd have thought!

Depends how close he is to the exchange and if his ISP will enable fastpath mode. I am just leaving Sky broadband, who refused to enable fastpath. I am about ~1 mile from the exchange and can only get 46ms on Foppa - and even that's at really quiet times. At peak times it's more like 52-55.

I have O2. Haven't tried to enable fastpath mode. Is there a way to check if it's already enabled? Or is it not enabled by default?

I don't think you can enable fastpath with O2. Most ISPs will have you in interleaving mode. Be There uses O2's network but will enable fastpath for you - I have just switched to them and am waiting for activation next week. A few UK guys use them and get 25ms in NL and 38ms in DK.

i'm on BT and have interleaving turned off so get a nice stable 38 to .dk, but the exchange is on my road.

Hagge: main places I'd use are ebuyer, scan.co.uk, overclockers.co.uk, and I just bought a screen from pcbuyit.co.uk who were pretty good.

I think I'm gonna stay with what I have since the ping is not too bad. Most of the time I get 38 ms at foppa, which is good enough. I think the deal with O2 is somehow connected to my gfs mobile deal, so can't really change ISP atm :)

Any tips for monitors? Since I will only use it for qw I would prefer the cheapest one possible that will make my qw nice and smooth :)

Wired might make the difference between stable 38 and 38-51 then - it's about 20-22ms to denmark, and I think Be/O2 interleaved has 12-13ms first hop? A bit of jitter from wifi would explain the 38/51 thing.

You'll want a 120hz screen for the most smoothness, but it pretty much doubles the cost, and it's hard to know if it's worth the extra money without trying one :)
