Div4 late season thoughts

The time has come for a season roundup and some thoughts about the playoffs.

The season is coming to and end and for some clans it is a time of joy and excitement, for others it means time to idle and wait for next season. There are a couple of teams that can?t reach playoffs and some of them might even have to descend the ladder down to div5. This is in no way a fact tho, just look at eql3 div3 winners a2k who are still playing in div3 this season. Also i would like to add that it seems fairly unlikely that any team will play their game vs olw, thats why i wont take those games into consideration in the following text.

Anyway, depending on if all teams play all their games, there are actually eight teams who could reach the playoffs. However if we see some quakemagic and all the teams do play 9 games i think the race is over for PHC, Oldones and 3B. This leaves us with Csn, Da, Toc, Sdp and Mor.

Chosen have had a good season so far winning seven out of eight games only losing to Dies Ater after a close decider on dm3. Chosen can not miss the playoffs even if they lose their last game. They are still in the lead but can get passed by both Da and Morituri if these two teams play enough matches and also win ofcourse. Chosens final match is going to be a hard one. In the other corner the UK team Morituri are waiting to give them a hard battle. My tip here is a 3 map game with morituri earning that extra point.

Dies Ater have shown good skills so far but their 0-2 loss vs Morituri was a little unsettling for them. I don?t think they are in any risc of missing the playoffs as they will take three points in their game vs 3B. The other game they have left features TOC who have made a strong effort so far. That game will be exciting but my guess is that DA will win it and earn two points in an exciting three map game.

The millenium outcasts (TOC) have gone from div5 straight into the top of div4 and their new player Desmo have been the deciding factor for them. Allthough they have three tough games left, vs DA, PHC and Mor, they will end up in the last playoff spot just squeezing in before Sdp. Their three final games will all be tight but i fear they wont win a map vs mor and probably lose 1-2 vs DA. The match vs phc on the other hand will end in favour for TOC earning them 2 more points as phc are too strong for them on dm2 to let them take a 2-0 win.

Beer Bear Balalaika will not make it into playoffs. Having only one game left versus DA will prove to be too hard for them and they will have to wait for the next season. Even though they will miss the playoffs they have done a fairly good season and i hope to see them back for eql5.

Moruituri are still behind having played only four games so far and even though they won them all, losing only one map, they will have to hurry up if they want to catch the playoff train. If they dont win atleast two more matches my bet is that Sdp will go right past them winning vs Oldones and Dybbuk. However if they do play their five remaining games i think they will win atleast four of them losing either to csn, toc or sdp and taking easy 2-0 wins versus sta and dyb. They will most likely end up in the topspot if they play these games.

Oldones is a team i personally like very much. They are a good team who i enjoy praccing alot vs. This season have been a little worse for them than i thought. It seems like they haven had their ideal lineup for the most games, that is creature, mli, eizid and vert imo, and this has proven too hard for them to compete with the top clans in most cases. Depending on the other clans they could still reach the playoffs, albeit a bit unworthy, if some team idles as their final game vs sdp very well could end in their favour.

Suddendeath project are another contender for the playoffs in div4. They have three games left and they range from difficult to fairly easy. If they do play vs morituri i think it will be a tough game for sd.p and they could very well lose 2-0 vs these skilled limeys. However sd.p have a chance to steal a point if they chose to play e1m2 as morituri havent played a single eql game on that one. After this game they have oldones and dybbuk left and alltho oldones are almost as good as sdp i think sdp will win 2-1 vs oo and 2-0 vs dyb given that fox and tuna from dyb dont get their stuff together. As said before sdp still got a chance at a playoff spot if mor idles.

Phc have been disappointed so far having lost too many games to reach the playoffs. Their last two games will prove to be challenging as they face of with toc and dyb. Toc, one of the playoff contenders, have been really good so far and i dont think phc will win here. The game vs dyb on the other hand will be a little easier on them but they still have to watch out for fox and tuna on both dm2 and e1m2.

Dybbuk have done pretty much what i expected. After a good start stealing a map vs csn they have fallen back. This is manly due to their two starplayers fox and tuna who havent shown their normal standard in most of the games. They still have four games left to play and three of them will prove to be challenging for them. They will most likely lose vs sdp, mor and phc and win vs sta. As olw will probably drop out the win vs sta wont help much as dyb will end up in 9th place just below the relegation line if olw drops out. Seeing dybbuk in div5 next season will be a breeze tho as they will probably end up near the top there.

Finally we have sta who have fought hard but not quite got the scores in their side this season. They took a map win vs oldones wich was good and they had some close calls. They even gave DA a run for their money on dm3. Their two last games will also prove to be too hard for them losing 2-0 to mor and 1-2 to dyb.
These guys have said they like to be in div4 even tho they lost all maps except one. We will see what the admins have to say about this after the season is finished.

The two clans most likely to step up to div3 are imo morituri and dies ater if all games are played.

Some conclusions in the above text might not be entirely true or possible. But on the other hand it is time consuming to calculate possible outcomes of the 12 remaining games. The above rundown should be viewed upon as a guide to the remaining games and not as a fact in any way.

With that said, feel free to calculate possible end-season standings. I guess there are quite many possible outcomes with 12 games that can be played or not and what this will result in.

its kinda good to play in the division you write about since you often prac vs the teams and also play the eql games vs them. you get a good overview and also do research at the same time you play.

after the research was done i wrote this in about an hour

If people like what i am writing i could do more coverage than of just my own division. It depends alot of how much time i got and so on.

Either i do preview and end season run downs of each div or ill concentrate on one div and also write news updates more often.

exactly what chosen did, chose e1m2 and won, and alltho we lost 2-1 we where 1 frag from a tie in cmt4. it was gg

they seemd to get their act together and actually win that last game vs ds

now they are on playoff spot but can very likely be past by mor sdp or toc
time will tell if they will play their games
