As expected; high pressure at the signup button, teams sleep-queuing to finally come through the process of being approved. Website crumbling, on its knees to serve the endless flood of unique visitors and eager competitors. Fascinating forum flamewars rage 'discussing' who-fits-where in the wide range of skill divisions of the league. Moderators working around the clock with accepting or rejecting more or less proper comments, hair turning gray. How's this edition of EQL gonna turn out? Will the oh-so-contributing SlackerS return for the quietus; the playoffs of EQL18 - and fight for the prestigious title? Are we gonna see those beloved deep post-game comments from fs´razor and cmf-fix this season again? I see an open starting field, and a trophy up for grabs. Hype!!

i used to think it was dead also. Have been absent for a year and its still here so. But there is alotof ppl that has left, hopefully only for a break ;)

But.. the thing that might turn it around is.. and we have been down this road before. Add new map/maps and remove e1m2 perhaps. And dont make top teams with top players who dominate in a a league as small as this one :p

Short version:

1. We have tried new maps several times and they get very small amounts of plays. Also, noone has ever been able to prove that the map pool is the reason for quitting or starting with QW.

2. Work, wife, kids, school, sports, TV, other games and dozens of other things tend to trump QW in ppl lifes nowadays. They couldnt care less if we started playing new maps or removed maps. The ones who still play more likely care about sticking to TB3 and the fact that we dont add new maps.

2. I will not remover E1M2. Ever. I dont even need to explain why. This map is most likely not the reason why ppl start or quit QW.

3. Yeah well, on the other hand I am absolutely sure that not letting friends or old clan buddies play together will make like 85% of the current signed players quit QW immideately.

Just my 2 cents.

After 15 years I'm finally done with tb3. I can only play some causual rounds of it (mostly dm3 as it is a great map). I won't even explain why and I don't want to touch this with a 10-feet pole. Stagnation and hardliners always took over in QW - I got that straight when Muffin and I tried to introduce some life with new maps.

There are some better things to do than hopping with boomsticks on e1m2, the map that made it to tb3 because there was nothing better at that time of QW life.

Good luck though - it is sad to see the demise of QW, the best game ever.

Just look back at all that has been done with tournaments map wise, also look att all the changes to the client(s). That is hardly conservative.

You dont need to change the field of battle in order to have some fun. I guess 17 years of Quake 1 has proven that.

perhaps run a duel tournament alongside with eql. I vote a dm4 tournament, since its the best map :)

I miss my old clan's homeground, E4M3. It would be a nice break from TB3 to have a 1990s-style tournament: Two maps chosen freely by each clan, server change at half time if necessary to even out ping disadvantage, and aggregate score wins. Maybe we'll see some E3M7 and E3M2 action again! Hooraytio, you'll fix this?

Also: I agree TB3 is the best for QW today. The only reason I bothered to make a comeback last year, after 13 years of not playing, was that not much had changed. I still knew the maps, the play, the sayteams, the tactics (mostly), like cycling, as they say. Today we have full-time jobs, families and a busy life. I don't have time to practice or learn new maps! I log on, play an hour or two, log off for a week, and repeat.

I think that players like Erlend are the ones we have the best chance of recruting (back) to the game.

The chance of getting someone who never played qw, or atleast quake3/quakelive, to join us are at best microsopic.

Hooraytio is right. I'm trying get some of my mates from VV in the 90s to do comebacks by telling them how easy it is to set up QW nowadays. There is no way they would bother if they had to learn stuff from scratch again.

I would help out to organize it and participate in it. Perhaps a one weekend tournament would suffice?
