New beta client of ezQuake allowed

The majority of servers today is running with antilag turned on. In short antilag allows you to shaft like if you had 12ms no matter your actual ping. It also affects sg etc (article about it can be found at quakeworld.nu).

Problem has been the visual representation of the lg beam when playing with high ping.

Read on for more information and client update!


Before antilag was implemented, having 51ms and shafting was horrible. The LG beam was laggy and delayed due to the high ping. Antilag changed this server wise, giving everyone a 12ms shaft beam in theory.

Problem with the visual model of the beam on high ping still remained. There was just no way to know where your shaft actually hit when on high ping.

ezQuake devs implemented cl_fakeshaft 2 (to be run with cl_fakeshaft_extra_updates 1 to work) to draw a visual shaft beam equal to playing with 12ms and cl_fakeshaft 0, no matter your actual ping.

So in other words, this client update is mostly for high pingers (but applies to everyone with 12+ms) to be able to get an accurate view of where their shaft is actually hitting.

Commands again:
cl_fakeshaft_extra_updates 1
cl_fakeshaft 2

This represents a 12ms shaft beam with cl_fakeshaft 0 no matter your own ping (which is what antilag is giving you).

This client will _only_ be allowed until a stable release is coming.

hmm, dunno if sth isn't fucked up:/ when i do like written my crosshair is blurred and also the rocket trail seems to have some additional strips. It happened when i replaced ezquake ez-quakegl.exe with the ones from the link.

I've had the same problem with the crosshair, a simple vid_restart will fix that.

I guess the biggest change in these builds is that we can finally see dynamic lights in fullbright areas. Nice! No more completely losing the pented guy at dm3 pent for me.

One problem we still have is the eyes... whenever someone take ring he gets harder to see.
It could be solved by remaking the model and replace the eyes with a player model or whatever, .. what do you think ?

I noticed that when I'm carrying a quad it's easier to "get bored with your life". Maybe some adjusting there also?

Sounds like the same problem for me. Also I keep falling off the ledges at RA on dm3... could railings be installed plz? It's a health and safety risk

Regarding my message from 2010-10-11 12:01, firstly 'for' in the initial sentence should've been 'to'. Secondly, I logged onto a server and noticed that railings have not yet been installed on the RA ledges in DM3, nor has anyone responded to my message raising the problem as a health & safety risk. A lot of QW players these days have kids, and when showing them around the map it is a very real possibility that the younger ones could fall from one of the top ledges, and do themselves some serious damage. We have matured as a community and many of us now have responsibilities which we cannot simply escape from, even to DM3. If QW is going to adapt to the changing community's needs then these railings are a must. I await your response, kind regards, Darff.

don't forget about the lava on dm2 !! the platforms seem to be extremely dangerous - u can easily get seriously burned - maybe a bridge over there?
And also the lava in RA-MEGA - at least some signes should be put over there "No jumping across the lava - there's the buttom that opens the bridge!!"
