I admire people able to perform during lan circumstances. I think it's another skill type, next to all the other different ingredients in qw. I especially think of LocKtar for his nerves of steel, ability to perform with fingers stained in engine grease after a night of few hours sleep on a cement floor. No need for perfectly adjusted chairs or tables. That impresses me.

But tVS' online performances continue to impress me, and it's only to congratulate to another EQL victory.

"I just think it's wrong to try and glorify the EQL victory as some sort of final test who is the "real" champion and the QHlan was just "for fun and didnt matter" If we want people to go there we need it to be as prestigous as it can be"

Well I can't change my opinion about that just to please someone. I think what I think. :S

"you got owned 1 game.. what's so bad with that"

Nothing, and since we took the crown right back in EQL in a way that was nothing short of impressive, it's all good. :)
#100 razor - 2010-12-18 14:12 (83.250.102.XXX)
they simply played awesome, you got owned 1 game.. what's so bad with that,.. it's good for community :)
but you still are the overall best in most eyes
#99 razor - 2010-12-18 14:08 (83.250.102.XXX)
ye but it's one player and it wasn't like you totally sucked in 4on4, or does every tvs player play bad on lan? I just think it's wrong to try and glorify the EQL victory as some sort of final test who is the "real" champion and the QHlan was just "for fun and didnt matter" If we want people to go there we need it to be as prestigous as it can be.. what little left of the prestige there is to win in QW nowadays we need to keep..
If you watch the games QHlan final/EQL final.. SR was like night and day in how they played
#98 Hagge - 2010-12-18 11:52 (188.223.195.XXX)
Now you are talking about aim blAze. Does aim really matter that much in 4on4? 8)
#97 blAze - 2010-12-18 11:33 (94.237.84.XXX)
So considering that he won me at LAN should that now have equal value? Should I now think that he is equally good pov player because he happened to win me there? Even though if we go now to play 100 povdmm4s, I will win 100 of them.
#96 blAze - 2010-12-18 11:29 (94.237.84.XXX)
razor, you are of course entitled to your opinion, but I just don't share it.

For example, I got totally owned by XantoM in povdmm4 at the LAN. That was the first time he has ever won me in it. I am 100% sure that if we'd play a pov now from home I'd beat him without effort. So what happened? Did he become the god of povdmm4 at the LAN, or was I just playing much worse than what I'd play from home? I'm sure if you had specced his playing there, it would have seemed that he is playing good too, because it's always relative to the opponent's play.
#95 fix - 2010-12-18 03:23 (84.251.23.XXX)
HangTime: Avenger has never played for cmf.

What comes to reppies case it was well planned 1 season emergency backup plan.

Old friends gave us a helping hand.
#94 razor - 2010-12-18 02:25 (83.250.102.XXX)
Ye it is longer period but still I think they are equally prestigous,QHlan also had nice prizemoney.. just because one team feel they didnt play good, for whatever reason, doesn't make it not count as you make it sound like.. maybe you felt like you played bad cause SR played good also.. from a spectators POV SR just played good.
And we played you on the LAN and I also speced your games, I can't say I noticed any difference from playing you online..
So I don't think you should dismiss SR's achievement, and no one should dismiss your EQL win either
#93 blAze - 2010-12-18 02:05 (94.237.84.XXX)
I wrote some thoughts before the LAN on this thread and they're still valid.

http://www.quakeworld.nu/blogs/2231/266/
#92 blAze - 2010-12-18 01:30 (94.237.84.XXX)
For me EQL is more valuable because you put half a year's work into it and you can give your best performance with familiar conditions and no distractions. That has always been my opinion and I haven't changed it depending on my success on LANs. This QH was our best achievement ever on any LAN so we have no reason to be disappointed. I know some people expected us to win every category but in my opinion those people simply dont understand the big difference in lan and online gaming.
#91 razor - 2010-12-18 01:07 (83.250.102.XXX)
"random LAN win".. what's that supposed to mean.. i really don't see how EQL is more valuable to win?
Yes it is for fun, but so is EQL? it's not like QHlan is just some fun thing and eql is dead serious?
#90 blAze - 2010-12-18 00:03 (94.237.84.XXX)
razor: Well, that's pretty much what they have been saying, except for the sucking online part. Hence this whole discussion...

If someone decides to appreciate a random LAN win more for whatever convenient reason, that's fine by me. Just please don't make things up, put words into our mouths etc.
#89 HangTime - 2010-12-17 23:41 (84.45.212.XXX)
Really don't see what the big deal is about playing prac games or tactic runs on 'secret' servers, plenty of clans used to do that in the old days before ASE and widely distributed server lists. Seems to me if you're playing div0 level (i.e. div1 semifinals/final) then if you're going to try out something new you maybe want to hide that from your opponent. I wouldn't know because I've probably played more div1 without ever reaching a semi (REC-LAN excluded) than almost anyone in the scene :)

Interesting point raised by fix regarding hib/dag, I've noticed quite a few weird/shortlived terms at CMF... you know, just good players that joined and didn't seem to play that much/long.... I'm thinking guys like Avenger, Reppie etc

As for the LAN vs EQL debate, obviously whoever wins each one is going to big it up. LAN has the $$$ but EQL has the prestige, I think most people would agree they never play their best on LAN due to physical conditions, it's not like the old days when you'd see only games played online under laggy conditions. That doesn't undermine anyone for winning LAN tourneys it just means I don't think you can turn around and say "yeah we won LAN tourney that means we are #1, screw everything else" (and the converse applies too).
#88 Chillum - 2010-12-17 23:13 (94.21.149.XXX)
I'll miss Milton and Xantom, they gave us such a lot of good games to spectate. GL champ in real life, i hope u will sux, and come back to qw soon lol. As for the drama SR=QHLan champ, TVS=EQL champ. Or am i too simple? :D
#87 razor - 2010-12-17 20:21 (83.250.102.XXX)
well i'll just write the last part:
What if SR turn it around and say
"we are alot worse online compared to LAN where zero has high ping etc but EQL was just for fun and luckily we won the real championship title on QHLAN"

it just sounds ugly either way.. :)
#86 razor - 2010-12-17 20:18 (83.250.102.XXX)
wtf where did my comment go :)
#85 ParadokS - 2010-12-17 18:16 (77.105.214.XXX)
He was a bit like Milton. Gave 200% in _EVERY_ game, nomatter who, what, where when. He was very serious about his quaking :)
And I\'m not saying that as a minus, it was a nice attitude that rubbed off on players around him. I looked up to him as a player.

fix: It\'s not about underlining our shortcomings at that lan, but you were missing key players and we were missing _HIB_. Two crippled teams, so yeah, it was good teams fighting, but it was not the epic matchup. But we were happy back then with the event because so many good players showed up. Unfortunately not more ppl showed up at this LAN, but it was compensated with the 2 best teams on the scene at least. I really hope more will show up for next qhlan!
#84 Blob - 2010-12-17 16:57 (85.76.32.XXX)
Holy crap, I haven't followed qw-scene for a while, but the flame wars still goes on. No offense para, but can't you just be a good sport about it? I understand it is frustrating that tVS is dominating div0, but still.
#83 fix - 2010-12-17 16:14 (80.223.142.XXX)
he was way too serious about everything, same could be said about dag's little visit on our roster.

some dudes are just meant to be on the enemy side :)
#82 Hagge - 2010-12-17 14:56 (212.221.52.XXX)
He was probably not as high as the rest of the cmf guys Be
#81 blAze - 2010-12-17 14:15 (83.102.10.XXX)
Interesting fix. Actually I completely missed the period in QW where hib apparently enjoyed some kind of legendary status. I think when he was playing for us he was just another good player, but not famous or anything. When I came back to QW, I think he had already moved to Thailand. So what went wrong? He seemed like a nice guy IRL but got angry easily online. :)
#80 fix - 2010-12-17 13:57 (80.223.142.XXX)
thanks dave i think u partly took my point there. and i salute you for that.

but then again you manage to see only your teams short comings in the tournament lineups, obviously missing hib at the time is a big hit, but striker and shiva did count for something surely at time too for their own teams.

your replacement at the lan was most unexperienced yes, tho most active of the other two when compared (janne, space)
xamp was 24/7 giving taste of his 50% shaft to anyone who was interested :D

and no im not saying your own final vs tvs dont count for anything, not at all.

blAze: when hib left tVS, he came to talk to us but we turned him down and i told him to contact para, and what do you know 1 day later there was ]sr[hib on the servers. not all the teams try to gather the best possible lineup =)

it was only after his SR spell when he came to us again, and i was fool enough to talk others into taking him in, nothing good came out of it.
#79 Hagge - 2010-12-17 10:34 (212.221.52.XXX)
Who needs a tv anymore? This stuff is far more entertaining 8) Can't Xantom come in and write another comment, so we'll get another 30 comments by lunch time 8)
#78 Hooraytio - 2010-12-17 10:26 (85.228.244.XXX)
Great stuff to read during coffee break!

thx
#77 ParadokS - 2010-12-17 08:06 (77.105.214.XXX)
We didn't need it, we thought it would be fun to prac without a lot of drama up to the finals. We just didn't get a chance to, simple as that. I don't really see the big deal or why it's so interesting of a subject.

And fix, if teams don't even bring best lineups to LAN, how can it really be as serious as online? At least this QHLAN both teams actually HAD all their best players present. In my book that counts for something.

Missing hib for qhlan is like tVS not playing with Milton, I'm sure if they didn't have milton at LAN it wouldn't be the "for fun event" card they would play if they lost 4on4.

Without Hib playing for a serious tournament it's of course easier to say it wasn't as serious as online, even though cMF did do a great job and I perhaps didn't give them enough credit at the time. How will you ever be able to forgive me fix?

tVS is the best clan around now, woopdi dooh, it's actually fairly new phenomenon, only after milton/xantom joined they could really dominate, before that tVS was always reaching for the skies, but never could get beyond 5th floor.

It's not gonna stay the same forever, it never did, it never will.

About having best players, well. Most teams try to get the best players they can get.. obviously, just doesn't mean they get what they want. You got a good deal though.. best player on the scene plus best swedish 4on4 player, from probably the biggest QW scene. top dollar :)

I can understand why are you sitting happy. I'm not complaining much either. Every season is a new challenge, building up and trying to go all the way.

Next seasons will be no different. ses på lan!
#76 QW-Fan - 2010-12-17 01:12 (193.167.107.XXX)
#59 Would you mind explaining that to all of us, qw fans and whole scene where did you need that private server? That is probably the most stupid thing ever to play in one and then claim you did't even prac there, why the hell you needed private server then? :P

Looks like SR had too high hopes when coming to eql-finals (because of "fun qhlan gaming tournament") and then losing it almost 0-100 feels too bad for now and that need a loooot of explaining. :/
#75 blAze - 2010-12-16 23:52 (94.237.84.XXX)
Heh, I don't get this whine about players at all. I guess it's no surprise that the best clan has the best players. Feels like common sense to me.

And winning a more skilled team in one fluke game is more of an achievement than winning game after game with skill. Does not compute... :S

SR had no "div2-3 rising stars", they're all solid div1 players...

We all take the best players we can get, to claim otherwise is just pure hypocracy.
#74 fix - 2010-12-16 23:22 (80.223.142.XXX)
As it seems i have to earn daves attention here we go:

"i find it kinda funny i find it kinda sad" as after our qhlan final vs ]SR[ (which they lost) daves strong opinion was that lans are for fun only :)

He even went on and write a nice few pages long article about the event itself and how wonderfull it had been, if im not mistaken badly he didnt bother to mention word "cmf" for once :D

Sidenote that he was a active figure of "scene-admins" at the time might add some spice for some readers minds :)

I myself on the other hand would like to consider a lan 4on4 tournament consisting of all its time top teams (tVS excluded) a very "rare goods".

On individual level only hib_of_sr ,striker_of_la and shiva_of_cmf did not participate.

About the "who pracced who when where how many times" thing i dont have anything to say.

But then again the final itself clearly showed how deadly a snikepit can be if you fall to it with head up in your ass.

gg cu next season.
#73 murdoc - 2010-12-16 22:59 (62.194.153.XXX)
I think what para is trying to say is that they have had this lineup of 4 great 4on4 players for some time now so they are suppose to win and are favorites in every match.

Of course its a achievement, but does it have the same value as it had some time ago when there where multiple clans playing with 4 top players? No
#72 pektopah - 2010-12-16 22:43 (82.181.203.XXX)
I find it very interesting what Para said:
"and no one disputed the fact that you have had the best team on the scene for a long time - but also had the best lineup that no other teams could match. Just pure player by player. So you have been the favorites every season with your current lineup, and managed to secure most victories. Congratulations with that... or something."

So, what he's saying is that Tvs has the best players so it's not a real achievement to win with a such a team? It's really hard for me to really understand this since Tvs is not some LA, and players like Blaze, Ihminen and Diki base their succes more on teamplay than personal skill. So I suppose Para means that since SR recruited some div2-3 rising stars they somehow earn it more than Tvs.

You are allowed and ask any opponent to confirm this, and I am sure you will knowing tvs attitude.. but let me help you we only played fusion to save you some time!

So what you're saying is that you didn't prac in secret the whole summer and fall and that the pracs we see on qw-stats isn't just the tip of the iceberg... I guess we just have to take your word for it then. :)

So ggs, unless fix had something more to add...?
#64 murdoc - 2010-12-16 17:39 (62.194.153.XXX)
we wanted to do some 7min pracs to get some practice to break your full starts ;)
So we had a private server setup 4-5 days before the final.

Unfortunately kingpin didn't even wanna play 7mins rounds so we ended up playing couple of mix games which we all lost buy the way so nothing fancy about that either.

I've said ggs and congrats on the server and on irc but if you dont find that enough i can repeat myself again here, GGS and Congrats!

fix I don't ignore you but you said you will bring some light to this issue later! :)
#62 fix - 2010-12-16 17:22 (80.223.142.XXX)

"On top of the other lame shit tvs pulled off"

Heh so what did we do exactly? We asked our semi opponent to ping up according to the rules (and our right to do so was confirmed by admin) and we made a little joke about your secret server.

But I guess compared to avoiding pracs for years, acting lame about doing so, or actually playing on secret servers and then saying you don't prac, what we did was really lame.

Looks like the best have to be a saint and everyone else gets away with murder. :P

You dont have to try to explain
#59 ParadokS - 2010-12-16 17:07 (77.105.214.XXX)
I don't need to explain anything to you :)
As I said before also we didn't actually have much prac there, since we didn't have full lineup before the actual finals on the saturday.

ppl would like to hear the true reason for playing on your private server where others cant spec... if its not a secret?

Was it so that your opponents couldn't see your tactics or something? I dont understand.
#57 ParadokS - 2010-12-16 16:51 (77.105.214.XXX)
nothing secret about it?
#56 Ihminen - 2010-12-16 16:33 (89.106.44.XXX)
Is it a secret why you play secretly?
#55 ParadokS - 2010-12-16 16:30 (77.105.214.XXX)
actually, I guess no one gives a crap :)
