Overview Division 1

Last week of EQL3 is almost coming to an end and i felt writing a little report.

With a couple of games left like tonight [Fragomatic vs Slackers] @ 23 cet, sunday [Slackers vs SuddenDeath] @ 20 cet and [Slackers vs the Viper Squad] @ 21cet. And maybe some more dunno what the other clans have scheduled.

I think the playoffs are presumably like the way the standings looks now, with Fragomatic, Lege Artis, Slackers and a big fight for the last spot between Koff and The Viper Squad. It sure looks interesting again.

Its a shame cmf started this season early without playing with there best lineup, but i think they are happy enough with the NQR victory where they showed some outstanding performance.

All the teams looks pretty in shape, we have the eql1 winners Fragomatic which haven't lost a map yet this season, and the rivals Lege Artis(currently on first position and won eql2) and Slackers(2nd place in nqr and eql).
Koff showed off a great performance but just having bad luck by losing the games with just a couple of frags.

I hope we get to see the same h0t action as we saw with the nqr finals.

1. Hello Nussi, thank you for your time. I wanna start of with the standard question. Who are you, where are you from, how old are you and what do you do besides quake?

Im Nussi from stockholm im 20years and since im a no-lifer i dont do anything
else then playing quake if im not playing on any server im probbably just

2. Sassa told me that you joined Suddendeath, What made you leave AntiQuad after all these years? Is it because of the new players that joined AQ?

Nah it got nothing to do with the new players, bamse and darkki are two
really cute guys.
AntiQuad got a really good team without me if not better. And i needed a new
challenge, sassa asked me if i wanted to join them and i saw it as a big
challenge that i maybe but just maybe could make sassa the best quakeplayer
ever if i just could play a few games with him so thats why im now playing
EQL3 with sd...



3. After messing up my predictions, i think sd will be alot stronger now, what are your thoughts about EQL?

dont know think every clan has a chance nowadays in eql since you can report
in pracs as offical games...



4. Can you give us some background history, like what clans have you played
in?

Huh... since im a traitor iv played in so many clans that i cant remember
them all. The one worth remembering is ofcourse Bad luck troopers with some
really cool fins! and maybe some more :>



5. What setup do you use? Which client which mouse etc etc.

GRrr im no 1337 h4xx0r... I got an old mx300 with an even older "IKEA"
mousepad and i gibb "skill3or" with fuhquake



6. After playing quite a good EQL1 by ending on third place what made you decide to drop out half eql2?

Aminds suxxed big floppy donkey dick!



7. I have always seen you as one of the keyplayers of aq. What made you this starplayer? Did you watch a lot of demos or was it just alot of practice?

Demos kind of suxxinen if its not a nice frag. I like it live! SIV made me
the man i am today with hes "QW school" @ heddan lans. He is one of the best
quakers i know and he took the time to teach me everything he knew.



8. Which player/clan do you like the most? and which one you hate the most, if hagge wasn't included? :D

I hate u all!



9. Whats your favourite tb3 map and why? Do you like any others maps besideds tb3?

Favourite map has to be dm2 with all the action players everywhere, it used
to be dm3 but nowadays there are to many [tVS] players camping behind every
wall with lg!

And then this shit with others map then tb3? whats that shit about.
I have to quote my friend HEDDAN here. "it took me 10years to learn 3maps
and know they whant me to learn 3 more?!?"



10. Did you played any other games besides QW?

Yeah ofcoz NHL94 is the shit



11. Do you play any other gamemode except for 4on4? Which one is you're favourite?

1on1 2on2 4on4 its all quake ofcourse im playing duel or 2on2 from time to
time but 4on4 is my favourite gamemode



12. What are you're thoughts about MM3, does it help the teamplay or do you think its annoying cuz its ez to scream and blame you're teammates?

OOHHH!! I love mm3 we always played with mm3 in AQ. Dont really know if it
helped us anything but its always fun shouting ojoj vittun helpoo with your
closest quakefriends



13. Can you tell me something about you're greatest acrhievement in you're QW carrier?

Dont really know when it was but after a few years with siv always raping me
in duels it was finally my day when the student won over the teatcher and
it was OJOJ VITTUN HELPOO!.



14. What do you think of the current QW community? Do you enjoy listening to TeamSpeak coverage and reading the opinions? would you like to do some coverage yourself?

15. Who do you think is the most overrated div1 player atm? (*HINT* Angua, payback! ;))

I tought it was some time for a interview with a rising star, this time its my clanmate dragon.


1. Hi Dragon, thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Who are you? What?s your name, where do you come from, what do you do when you?re not playing qw?

Hello :p my name is Erfan Khodabaks I live In the Netherlands. My parents moved from Surinam to the Netherlands. And ehm what I?m doing when I?m not playing quake. That is Anarchy Online just a lame mmorpg : ) or I?m at school. Im 16 years old im in the third grade.

2. I know you from the old days, when we played like 24/7 2on2?s But can you give a little more background history of your QW career for the other ppl?

Hmm I started to play at my ninth just some random noobish ffa. I started playing in VR some div 5 clan ? and after I joined VVV and got kicked coz of my behaviour and after I joined a death clan boefje.


3. Have you ever tried playing any other online multiplayer games? How successful were you?

Didn?t really tried an other game actually played a bit cs but was too boring.. and I wanted quake again :D


4. What setup do you use for QW? Fuhquake Ezquake? GL or soft? Logitech, MS or Razor?

Well i?m using ofcourse GL and my Mouse is a mx510 .. have a cheap mousepad and a cheap keyboard


5. We know you're a great fan of 4on4. But are you a fan of any other QW game modes such as 1on1/2on2?

w00t povdmm4 plz :P


6. Which players did you follow/observe to learn from? Did you study any demos?

I don?t like watching games but was pretty amused the demo FF ? SR pov akke so.. :)
And I just mixed a lot


7. How come you always let you clan mates play dm2/e1m2, don?t you like the maps?

Its just the maps doesn?t play as smooth as dm3 for me that is. So ?


8. What do you feel are your main strengths as a 4on4 player? And your weaknesses? Which area's in your opnion could use improvement?

Not sure about that. I just like to survive a lot of situations and my weakness that?s my ping.
And to improve it, lets play in NL?


9. What are you?re thoughts about ?MM3?? Do you think that it helps or hinders team play?

MM3 is nice to play with but annoying to play against, enuff said ?


10. Who do you think will be the toughest opposition in EQL this season?

FOM seems to be in a great condition but I fear LA too though.


11. What has been your greatest achievement in QW?

Well?. In VVV map take over vs la :)


12. Which clan has been the toughest to play against in your whole QW career? And what about the toughest player?

FOM is the clan that?s toughest and reppie is just to annoying to play against


13. Are you a fan of any maps besides the big 3? Would you like to see any custom maps brought back into the top level of QW?

I?d like to have CMT4 back it?s a nice map


14. Do you have any tips for 4on4 players who are striving to improve and work their way up from the lower divisions?

Don?t be a pussy and prac vs teams in a higher div.


15. What do you think of the current QW community? Do you enjoy listening to TeamSpeak coverage and reading the opinions of ?pundits? in the scene?

Its alright always funny how to hear what they think about it.

Hmmm, my mates will hate this, but its purity :)

1. Hello Fifi, thank you for taking the time to talk to me. I?m going to start by asking you to tell us who you really are ? what?s your name, where do you come from, what do you do when you?re not playing qw?

Hello, you?re welcome. My name is Tero and I come from the beautiful city of Villmanstrand that?s located 25km from the Russian border. Most of my average day is spent at school, but sometimes I manage to squeeze in some sports and/or cardgames.


2. Can you give a little more background history to your QW career? Which clans did you play in before Clan Malfunction. Around what time did you start playing QW?

I?ve played qw on/off for almost 9 years I think, played in many teams but the longest stretches were probably with GLX and np! before switching from keyboard to mouse and joining cmf in 1999.


3. Have you ever tried playing any other online multiplayer games? How successful were you?

Sure. For FPS-games I tried CS for a total of 30secs and played Q3 for one year when it was released. I was never any good in Q3 because the game was really boring and I had a laggy cablemodem back then. The good thing was that no one else was really good either and we managed to win at eurocup lanfinals with am.


4. What setup do you use for QW? GL or soft? EzQuake or FuhQuake? Logitech, MS or Razor? Give us the juicy details!

I?m currently running gl-fuhquake@1024x768. I?m using razer diamondback on func which seems to work quite well. As for the juicy details: I use fullbright skins and no weaponscripts.


5. You?re known as great 4on4 player in the scene at this time. But are you a fan of any other QW game modes such a 1on1?

1on1 is a great way to improve your skills. It can be really fun if neither of the players take it too seriously. I used to enjoy ?serious? duelling, but then again, I was 14 and winning in qw still meant something :D 2on2 on the other hand is very fun even if it?s the world championships (well, on every map except dm6).


6. I know that many people view you as great overall player in the QW scene, but which players taught and influenced you to play in your own unique way? Did you study demos while you were an upcoming player?

Actually there is one player whose demos I used to watch a lot. I still consider him the best qw player that has ever played 4on4. His style was really aggressive and he never made any mistakes. That?s pietro if you didn?t guess already :) I suppose I tried to play like him, and at that time my connection was really good so I usually had the lowest ping on the servers what still matters more than most people are willing to admit.


7. What do you feel are your main strengths as a 4on4 player? And your weaknesses? Where do you think you can improve?

I would say my biggest asset is reading the game. For example, if we are playing a polish clan on dm2 and we are securing quad before it spawns, we leave the quad area empty and just camp at high-tele because every pole rjumps from 2xya to upper tele. My biggest weakness is probably aiming. Also, I sometimes overestimate my own abilities and as a result die in ?stupid? situations :)


8. What are you?re thoughts about ?MM3?? Do you think that it helps or hinders team play? Is CMF using MM3?

Definitely helps. That?s why we are not using it so our opponents can win a game here and there. Actually we have talked about trying it sometime, but the language barrier is just so very big between Finnish and Swedish :(


9. Who do you think will be the toughest opposition in EQL this season?

It?s hard to name one, but I wouldn?t be too surprised if la, fs, sr, tvs, fom or koff would win one map against us. If I had to pick one, it would be la because we have never(?) beaten them.


10. What you think about the ?new star players? are they strong enough to compete in div1? And which players are you thinking of?

I?ve played against most of the new players and think they will do just fine. Perhaps not being the topfraggers but definitely not going to be pushed around. I?m thinking of darkki and bamsen from AQ, inferno from LA and almost the whole SR team :D


11. What has been your greatest achievement in QW?

Hmm, probably the 4on4 competition at qhlan with fix, siv and janne. Pretty much every top team was there (sr missing hib though) and we managed to win 14 straight maps without any losses. Maybe it?s just me, but doing that in 100% fair environment means more than on internet where things are never completely equal :) It?s also very subjective view as we usually lose in playoffs :D


12. Which clan has been the toughest to play against in your whole QW career? And what about the toughest player?

That would have to be ff/la. Always felt like you had to be 100% so it doesn?t turn into fragfest. The single toughest player to play against for me is riker because it feels like he doesn?t care if he dies and gives away rl.


13. Are you a fan of any maps besides the big 3? Would you like to see any custom maps brought back into the top level of QW?

Personally I would like to see other maps in qw. I enjoy cmt3 and cmt1 to some extent, but the problem is that not everyone, especially in div1, will learn the new maps. That results in decline of div1-teams participating in tournaments that use other maps.


14. Do you have any tips for 4on4 players who are striving to improve and work their way up from the lower divisions?

Have patience. Even if you get destroyed against better players/teams, you should still play against them because the things you learn in-game are more valuable than the things you pick up on watching demos.


15. What do you think of the current QW community? Do you enjoy listening to TeamSpeak coverage and reading the opinions of ?pundits? in the scene?

I think it?s great. I enjoy the commentary very much when it?s about the game. I don?t belong in the group that listens to sassa tell about his quest to the supermarket trying to find julmustard 8)


16. As you may have seen, I wrote div1 predictions this time. Do you agree with me or do you have a different view?

They look about right, though I think you might underestimate tvs a little. Their strength has never been the individual skill but solid teamplay which will be really good now that they have already played one season. There are a lot of ?it depends? but it?s going to be an interesting season.


17. As I heard on IRC, you got back and Angua is done with the army very soon. Will there be an active and solid cmf this season?

Well, we have played at least seven rounds of 4on4 this week which is a lot for us. Angua will be in army for another 2-3 weeks so I think it?s safe to say that our playoff hopes are destroyed well before he gets out 8)


18. What do you think about EQL itself, is it good the way it is or would you like to see some changes?

I would like to see five maps in the map pool but other than that, it looks nice. The best thing is that you have to play well already in the group stages. Usually you could cruise in autopilot until playoffs, but now that only four teams go through, you can?t.

Predictions Div 1

Hello boys and girls, welcome to a new eql season. I am gonna write my predictions about div1 this season. This is my first time writing anything about the qw scene so don't attack me on that. Divison 1 sure looks hot this season, alot of hot fights coming up. Hope you'r gonna like it and have fun reading :)

1 AntiQuad
------------------------
The "new" Antiquad doesn't look so strong as they were before. With there 2 new players Darkki and Bamsen from div2. They needed these new players because of the inactivity of pinevester this season. Harvester was one of there key players. There is alot of prac needed to even win a map from the others.

My prediction: 8th place.


2 Clan MalFunction
------------------------
I heard fifi is back and angua is done with army in just a couple of weeks (4/5?) so with the old fifi/angua/fix lineup there shouldn't be a problem to win some maps/games.

My prediction: 5th place.


3 Firing Squad
------------------------
Still one off the strongest teams, as they showed in EQL2 by losing the finals with close games 3-1 vs LA. With there super combo reppie/razor they are hard to take out. Now when spoinka is back they need some more prac.

My prediction: 4th place.


4 Fragomatic
------------------------
They where very inactive as a team, have seen them play some mix games, and some clan games. But they still look as one of the favourites to win eql. Very strong linup.

My prediction: 1st place


5 Koff
------------------------
Koff :) they impressed me on how good they were. Solid teamplay nice guys fun to play with. Very strong dm3 but they need more prac on the other maps to make a chance.

My prediction: 6th place


6 LegeArtis
------------------------
Now when mutilater joined LA, they are gonna even be stronger then the season before. Very hard to beat on e1m2. They are aiming for the finals for sure.

My prediction 2nd place.


7 Slackers
------------------------
Former Leftovers, with paradoks added. The most active div1 clan atm. Should be able to win most of there games.

My prediction: 3rd place.


8 Suddendeath
------------------------
I have seen less activity of this clan wich they really need to even win a map. Maybe they should take phrenic back in?

My prediction: 9th place.


9 the Viper Squad
------------------------
Strong team good teamplay, but are the strong enough without milton or will the be even stronger now when goljat has joined their forces?

My prediction: 7th place.
