Division 1 preview by Slabiutki

2010-03-02 17:19 by Slabiutki

EQL11 has started and it is time for a division 1 preview.

The teams in division 1

There are a total of 13 teams in division 1, and they will all face each other once during a period of 7 weeks. Which means teams will have to play more than one game a week.
The top 8 clans will reach playoffs so it should make for one exciting and action packed div1 EQL in years!.

Let's take a look at all the hot clans that are going to compete in div1 8)

the Viper Squad

Current EQL champions, and obviously big favourites to bring this one home again. With brothers blAze & Ihminen leading the team and players like Xantom, who’s one of the very few true div0's left playing this game while they also have Milton rightfully considered to be the strongest TDM player in QW. They have the most experienced lineup around who have been playing with eachother for a very long time now. They proved many times in the past that they have no problems being in position of the team that everyone aims to beat, and have the nerves of steel when it comes to official games. It's going to be really tough to stop this team from winning if they show any motivation to stay on top. I just hope other teams will take some maps away from them and I am sure they will!

Slackers

Last EQL they made it into the finals and got stopped by no other than tVS. This team consists of 4on4 veterans like Paradoks, Murdoc and Zero who turned himself into real TDM powerhouse. Lately we have seen Javve making a comeback, this guy will improve SR's tp greatly and hopefully Zero who has been idling lately gets back into the middle of the action during this EQL. The only thing that can stop SR from doing great this EQL is their activity and long list of players, which make it hard for them to get any consistency to build a teamplay that this clan was so famous for in many years. If they get their act together this is one of the very few teams that is able to beat tVS imo.

Fusion

My former clan, contender for top3 spot. They have really good lineup consisting of players like div0 Martin aka Valla, Moltas who has nerves of steel and no weak maps (imo one of the best E1M2 players around), Skillah
with mad quad running skillz, Rikoll who is already really solid in 4on4 and in a short time I expect him to become same beast in tdm as he is in duel, if given a chance to play more. I expect this team to go top4 atleast and possibly making it into finals with tVS! Deadly dm3 game with godlike Valla, very strong e1m2 game with Moltas/Rikoll and solid dm2.

CCCP

The best that Russia has. These guys seem to never prac, yet when EQL comes around they sign for div1 and do lots of damage. They are the only team that won a map from tVS in an official game the past 2 seasons? That says a lot about their potential. If they just played some practice games I could easily see this team making it all the way to the top4. Even if their activity stays low most of the division will have rough ride against them.

Suddendeath

Bps and his friends are back at it, hopefully TB3 only EQL will keep them more interested in qw. One of the most experienced teams this season. Bps teammate from clan druids, Mawe joined SD for this season and should make it easier for the team to stay active. They have all it takes to make great impact this EQL, lots of experience under their belt from quakeworld battles and perfect mixture of players Molecule, Grisling and Arnette supporting Bps and Mawe going nuts with quad 8)

Sauna

Sauna boys from Finland are hard to predict anything of since they are a newly made team. But just looking at their lineup you’d expect some nice games from these guys. Hlt, the former tdm star player from CMF (most likely learned a trick or two from Kingpin from his stay with Enigma last season :) ), Darkki the dm3 monster and Mazer, their most experienced player next to Hlt. And don’t forget Bandit and Dmt, two really solid players who can learn a big deal from Hlt and Mazer about tp. Hlt & Dmt suprised a lot of people with their performance in 2on2 tourney, I wouldn’t be suprised at all if they did the same this EQL which is going far and winning games where they haven’t been a favourite.

Enigma

A team run by the man, the myth, the legend, nightmix soldier Kingpin himself! Enigma had a rough ride in last EQL, now they lost their key player Hlt. But no worries, Kingpin made sure div0 balance in Enigma stays the same and brought the legend from Friring Squad, the mighty Razor onboard. Also bringing Goblin to the clan shows you that Enigma was active on the transfer market before EQL. I am predicting a much more sucessfull season for this team compared to last one!

Oblivion

Now is the time to check on div2 teams playing in div1. First one is Oblivion from Sweden. A team who has in their roster a player called Hagge, the same man who travelled all the way to Australia just to find out that Reload refused to accept his duel challenge where he wanted to prove EU > AU. How this team performs is all dependant on Hagges disposition that day. It means they can take down tVS or fail badly. On a more serious note I think all the div2 teams playing in div1 will have hard time taking points away from true div1 lineups and in the end the best (more lucky?) div2 team will finish 8th on the last playoff spot.

Boefje

They were a top div2 team last season and made it into the finals. Now they have the chance to compete with div1 teams and will show to other people how big the gap is between top div2 and div1 teams. They are one of the favourites to finish the season in the playoff spot. With players like Gijs, Springs and Blixem on top they can do some damage to div1 teams.

Revolution

Polish team Revolution lead by Avenger. They were inactive last season in div2, hopefully now they get to finish all their games. I wont say anything new if I tell their results will greatly depend on their best player Avenger, who proved in the past he is able to win games on his own. The problem is it wount be so easy to pull this off in division 1 where team effort is really needed. If they keep practicing I am sure they will do just fine.

Dies Ater

Clan leading by Soma is really dissapointing me. They have all the talent and potential to become solid div1 team yet inactivity always gets in their way. Hopefully this season will be different and Dies Ater members will have some more free time that they can spend fragging. If they are active, their team would be my black horse in EQL making some nice suprises here and there.

Teamkillers

Quiet new team on the scene with bunch of cool guys. First time in EQL history team makes a jump from Div3 to Div1 on one season. And it’s for a reason...recruting Medar and HangTime really kicked in their performance boost. They have one of the nicest tp on dm3/e1m2 I have ever seen from a team that wasn’t div1. Just a matter of time when they improve their individual skillz and become one of the best clans around.

Easy to Kill

And finally my own team. Not much to say, just a bunch of polish dudes having fun playing qw. No real aspirations or goals during this EQL since we are up against the best of the best. I guess if we win a map here and there we will be glad ;) Ok I was lying, the goal is to be nr 1 ofc, beating tVS in the final by one frag on the decider which is dm2. Where I shoot 3 midair rockets on quaded Milton in bigroom for the win. Anything else is fail and unacceptable...

When u put it like that, this season sure looks hot! Let's just hope for lots and lots of activity, not only by playing all the games of course, but also by praccing actively.

Omg, from EQL9 onwards these seasons begin to look like each other. Which is quite boring. Prolly tVS and F will be most active clans this season. Big hopes lay on SR once again and they sure can reach the finals but there will be no question who will win this season. Offccc CCCP can do some russianmagictrick and win a map from tVS but other than that they are untouchable.

Even if you think tVS are untouchable gods, smiting all mortals that dare venture to their sky-castle, there are going to be a dozen other exciting high-level games between the other top div1 teams to make this season interesting.
