Division 3 preview by Kapt. Kloze

2010-03-06 23:11 by Kapitan Kloze

We welcome KapitanKloze who has written the following preview of the clans in division 3.

By the authoritative decision of the admins, there’s a total of 13 teams in the Division 3 this season. Some of them requested div 3, some did the same for div 4 thus some of them might find it a bit discouraging. However, I really hope they will put their best into the forthcoming blood-pumping carnage and show no mercy to their formidable foes. The 8 top teams will reach the playoffs, the regular season will last for 7 weeks so get your games rollin’ ASAP! Some of the clans are pretty new for me, some of them are quite familiar but let’s save my breath for a short analysis and a forecast ;)

Bloodpunch

The first clan of the preview is also the strongest contender for the top place in my humble opinion. The names like zappater, exxus, putte or supernova ring a bell. The clan was established in 2008 but didn’t participate in the last EQL season although some of the clan members did. Those are quite experienced TP players and they should, if active enough, take the 1st spot without breaking a sweat.

Cpm.qw

A recently-emerged team that consists of some Russians supported by a former cpm player LuGia, Hence the name I reckon ;). Not much to say about this one, I haven’t seen too many pracs going (only vs Pissed Cobs) and it seems like a long way to go for them. The lack of TP routine is a great obstacle thus let’s hope those guys will put some efforts to perform well.

Dark Abbots

Now, that’s a clan I’m very familiar with. Founded before last EQL, they’ve shown a great deal of activity and consistency. They practice a lot, they already have some TP fundamentals and performed well in ClanWarz and last EQL. Strictly led by CL MajQ, they will make playoffs without a doubt. The only flaw is the absence of their highest skilled player Paral who will not be able to play this season. Will it be balanced by Goqsane’s nice ping?

Dybbuk

A legendary, established in ’96, German clan is back into business. Their name simply implies what servers they would be delighted to play at ;). Their clan history shows some good performances in the early NQR seasons, however this is something different now. Their team consists of only 4 players and this is definitely too few I suppose. I forecast some troubles with activity and don’t think they will be a match for other clans contesting for the 8 PO spots.

Fallen Angels

A very well-known team with nice shows back there. Zalon, whimp, raz0, karnage are the names which will be quite active I believe. Alongside their nice TP routine, this will be the factor strongly predisposing them to fight for the high ranks in div 3. However, the opponents are not lazy and FA will need still more pracs to fulfill my predictions.

In a Blaze

Well, that’s a sort of disappointment for me. They were inactive last season (just one game and a bad loss to Magnum 44) and a line-up with the former superstar Fix should do really better than that. If active enough, they can learn lots of TP expertise from Fix. However, I predict their activity to be the biggest predicament again. I’ve seen Fix playing only a couple of 4/4 games during last days but not with his EQL clan. To sum it up and put it roughly – this will not be enough.

Machinery

Another Polish clan I’m quite fond of. Emerged just before ClanWarz, this clan is also getting better and better. Although their individual skills are not most impressive, their goal is to learn and improve. Their superstar is Sniegowy, an old-school player from the 90’s, teamed up with NeFuRii and biborodek who is quite capable of understanding the nuances of TP already. They don’t seem to care if they lose/are raped, they play for pleasure and to get better. They may be able to snatch away some maps from other teams and it will be no surprise to state that Sniegowy is their key to be victorious. Playoffs? Well, why not?

Mob of Oddballs

This multilingual clan (everyone comes from different nation) was founded by Itsinem. Performed quite well in last EQL and made it to the PO. I’d like to see more activity and pracs from that clan since the official games are not the only factor making you a victor in QW. Hopefully, they will make PO this year as well but this is where it ends.

Osams

Last year they performed in div 3 and lost every game. Hopefully this year they will do better. The line-up of this mostly Swedish clan looks pretty much the same but unfortunately they are not seen praccing too much. Every clan needs practice before official games and those guys are no exception. Hence, I forecast no great show this time.

Paras

Paras became victorious last season and took the div 4 title home. They seem quite active at the moment with Netspider praccing a lot of night mega-mixes at WG and their roster looks stable. Surely, they will make a threat for other teams and undoubtedly advance to the PO where they can put a good fight for the title. They are really efficient on e1m2 and their name (the bestest in English) means real deal, so beware!

Pinches Tiranitos

Another Russian clan trying to make their way in the QW universe. You can see similar names like nuff-nuff and naff-naff praccing (are they brothers? ;) ) around but will it be enough to get some TP routine? Once again, activity is a questionable thing here so this team is another riddle.

Public Enemies

That’s a crack team that showed some courage and determination. As the only team outside of Europe (they’re American) their skills will be diminished considerably by high pings at European servers. They are quite skilled individually but possess no TP expertise and routine at all – QW in USA is dead as we know it. No team of superstars will be competitive to guys with great TP routine and experience. No surprises this time.

Quad at Home

A newly-formed, European clan with some well-known QW figures like anni. Those guys seem to take it quite seriously: they prac a lot against clans like BP, CPM or just versus different mixes at WG etc. And they are getting better every day. Their improvement will surely let them make the PO and who knows what they will be able to accomplish when given some time to synchronize their TP?

My predictions (random order for all):

1-3: bp, QatH, Paras
4-6: DA, FA, MoO
7-9: machinery, cpm.qw, osams
10-13: In a Blaze, PE, PT, Dybbuk

Really good preview/predictions!

I too think Bloodpunch are gonna do very well. They have Exxus and Kreuger, two players with immense pontential. To be honest, I think the only reason those guys are "still" in Div3 is because they hardly ever play. And the other guys in Bloodpunch know their TP quite well too.

But I also think (and hope) you're underestimating Dybbuk. As you pointed out correctly, they haven't been active for a while, but on the other hand I also believe QuakeWorld to be somewhat like riding a bike - People get rusty, but they don't ever forget how to play TP. All of the guys on their squad know how to play TP and lock a map. And with Fox on their roster, they even have someone who can dominate a map (especially dm2) on his own. If, as you predicted, they're gonna have trouble with activity, then you might be right. But with a handful of pracs and all official games played, I think Dybbuk are good a spot in the top4. Fingers crossed!

Quad at Home looking very solid too with anni especially, but also akira and 1-2 others. Top4 fo' shizzle!

I suspect that we also underestimate the American dudes: they really have some zest for it!! They may be a surprise element ;):>

pe has no tp skill or routine? Our tactics may be slightly dated but theres lots of tp experience on our team. The fact that most of us are west coast and ping like 150 to europe will be the bigger obstacle.

thanks soma! We are rusty... but it's coming back.
As for activity, we do hope to play every game. We are a lan team so we meet up at my place, we were only four the last two seasons (EQL 2 & 3) oh boy its a long time ago.... Nevertheless we look forward having some good games, albeit we don't know how strong our division is.

yaaaay Machinery and MoFo gogogogo :)

p.s. Paras champion of div4 last season?
the final between CN and CCS never happened, but paras got knocked out by CCS in semis.
