Division 2, mid-season report

Since there are 9 active teams the maximum number of matches each clan can play are 8. Seeing as we now have clans with up to 6 matches played I thought it was time for a mid-season follow up of my preview.

Most of the results so far have been expected but there has been one big upset.

That upset is of course Magnum 44 winning 2-0 over Apocalypse 2000. Plate made a really nice performance top fragging both maps while having solid backup from his teammates.

Apocalypse 2000 have had a convincing start other than that upset but still have to play Fraggers United and Pissed Cobs which have been two of the stronger teams of the division so far. A2K have also replaced meshuggah with dahmer and despite losing to Magnum 44 with dahmer in the team I think it will work out well for them eventually. This team has 4 games left out of which I think they will get 10 more points.

Pissed Cobs have been more active and even a little better than I expected. I heard unsettling rumors that they had stopped playing but after that they re-emerged and beat Demolition Crew 2-0 but Demolition Crew wasn’t that far behind and I still expect them to end high in the table. Seeing how good they have played so far I wouldn’t be surprised if they get 13-15 points from their 5 remaining games.

Satanic Slaughter Clan has made a slow start only playing two games and I heard it was because of Rekk having some computer problems. I hope that is solved now though as it would be sad to have another clan drop out of the already smaller division 2. They did well in their game versus Fraggers United in which they managed to take home DM3 despite Fraggers United fielding persuader, ilkka and kippo along with emerging starplayer culkey! Satanic Slaughter Clan still have six games to go and I think they will earn a total of 12 points from these games.

Speaking of Fraggers United they are off to an amazing start having won three games 2-0 and only lost to Demolition Crew 0-2 aside from the 2-1 win of Satanic Slaughter Clan. Persuader, who dropped down from division 1, have really helped their offense and together with Ilkka it will be interesting to see what he can do versus Apocalypse 2000 who is another top clan in this division. In their three remaining games I would say they will get 7-8 points depending on how well they play versus Pissed Cobs and Apocalypse 2000.

Having mentioned Demolition Crew a few times already I must say I am a bit disappointed about their results so far. Even though they managed to beat Fraggers United and came close to steal a map from both Apocalypse 2000 and Pissed Cobs I had expected a little more points for them halfway through the season. They have games left versus Magnum 44, Satanic Slaughter Clan, Chosen and Ax3. The toughest game will be versus Satanic Slaughter Clan while having a greater advantage over the other 3 clans. Somewhere between 10 and 12 points wouldn’t be surprising.

The season has been so-so for Chosen so far. Not very convincing victories versus Magnum 44 and Ax3 but both games ended 2-0 nonetheless after a thrilling DM2 versus Ax3 where the only frag of Junkass brought the game to an overtime which ended in the favor of Chosen. Fraggers United versus Chosen wasn’t very exciting on DM3 while on the other hand DM2 coming very close to an overtime. Too defensive play by Chosen in the last minute let Fraggers United secure the victory by getting the last quad. Chosen has 4 games left out of which the games versus Apocalypse 2000 and Demolition Crew will be very tough. The games versus Satanic Slaughter Clan and Demolition Crew 2 are must wins if Chosen want a good placement before the playoffs. 8 points might be too optimistic since SSC should get their stuff together pretty soon.

In the bottom half of the 8 clans currently on playoff spot we find 3 Polish clans in a row. Magnum 44 have, aside from their great win versus Apocalypse 2000, managed to win 2-1 versus Demolition Crew 2 and lost 0-2 to Chosen. Looks like Chosen where in luck to play Magnum 44 before they had built up steam enough to challenge the better clans of division 2. Out of their 5 remaining games I think they will get 8 points and the game versus Ax3 is a real make or break deal if they want to get a little higher in the table.

Demolition Crew 2 has been more active than successful so far scoring a single map win on DM2 versus Magnum 44. Their best map is DM2 and this is also their chance to score 4 points in their last 2 games versus Chosen and Satanic Slaughter Clan.

Finally we have Ax3 who came very close to winning DM2 versus Chosen but the result gave them chilling flashbacks to NQR3 where they lost the 2nd place of division 3 to GamBlers after losing E1M2 and DM3 in the last game of the season. They have 5 games left to play out of which I think they will earn a mere 7 points. Their two best chances at scoring 3 pointers will be versus Magnum 44 and Satanic Slaughter Clan but I suspect they will have to settle with at best 2 points from each of these games.

Clan Cube Squad have kept their word and haven’t been trying to play at all. Their attempt at playing versus division 3 clans and post the scores at qw.nu forums have so far been a failure as well. I hope they will come back next season though!
